Skidown, I take it that means you're returning to Tahoe next season ?? I guess you liked the area even in a poor snow year.

It only takes a single storm to turn Tahoe around..... He got to experience that first hand.

B2Ski - More than likely, a few things changing here, which means possibly no trip, a 4 week trip or maybe a 3 month trip!

Either way $399 + $509 is a small investment... I have all the major resorts covered in Tahoe, Squaw, Alpine, Heavenly, Kirkwood & Northstar and then the Colorado resorts, just in case [IMG]

I have done Tahoe before in 2 great years, and this year was so crap at the start, I was almost regretting it for the first few days....

1 big storm later (3-4 feet from memory) an epic base was set, with some nice stashes around
Then we got 8 feet+ and it was ON

So yes even though it started off very badly it was still a blast and once the storms hit it was EPIC [IMG]

March was/is the month to be in Tahoe, 160 inches has fallen so far at Squaw this month!

With another 2-3 feet coming through right now, with another 3-4 feet on Saturday!

i love tahoe, and the snow is only one reason for that.

You also love Mammoth, but there's a different reason for that.

Where are those tree sliding pics Snorkler? [IMG]

Actually was it Northstar or somewhere that had them (trees) setup in the park?

After figuring on not even thinking about next year until nearer Christmas what happens MrsH says this morning that her corporate area needs to know when she will be away next summer holidays. So already plans are forming: it will be back to Summit County again but a bit earlier in January this time.

    That's the theory.

Besides I thought that as a rule of thumb La Nina meant a wet mild summer here and a dry mild winter in USA: with the 2010-11 La Nina being a dramatic exception in the US and the 2011-12 La Nina being a return to the more usual expectation, if a bit on the extreme side. We were very lucky though and with bye bye La Nina hopefully it won't be the nail biting anxiety it was leading up to last Christmas.

Yes LT and hopefully MissH can make it too, although I don't even want to think about next January just yet as we haven't decided anything definite for our visit to the UK (primarily Scotland) the second half of June.

The KT tree didn't have enought snow on it to do it. Did find one on the Ridge but we had some issues getting pics of it with a GoPro....

I can't remember ever being so disappointed in my life as I was at the end of our Tahoe trip. 1st of Feb until the 14th, the snow was rubbish throughout.
It was the last major ski trip for me for years as well, one last hurrah.

Every part of the trip was great... except the snow.

Hopefully you learned your lesson, and will only ever ski Japan in the future.

Well, only been to Japan once but Tahoe was FAR superior the first time I went.

Yeh it was one of the worst years for Tahoe, it got MUCH better at the end of Feb, then March was back to average snowfall!

Hope you can get some ski days in somewhere soon though [IMG]

Spring was kind to us at Snowbird. It gave us powder on 2 days & bluebird the rest from 30th to 7th. It's nice skiing next door in Alta too, tree skiing good and snow preservation a little better. Less crowded too , also there were a lot of seniors that travelled from all over US just to ski Alta because of softer snow & easy on legs.

Mineral basin favorite area, wide open bowls good till midday then frontside in the arvo was the go. Slushy down the bottom lifts on one day during week in first week of April was impressive.

The snowbird centre turned into a beer garden at lifts close. Locals would go downstairs ,grab 6 packs & enjoy the sun . Met some characters & I felt the etiquette between boarders & skiers was great. Big happy crowd.

Done Vegas ,good weather ,then San Fran last week , freezing by the bay, know at LA on last leg, nice day today.
