Yesterday I was insensitive enough to post a praise/criticism thread for Thredbo. True enough there's no necessary connection between resort observations/feedback and that tragic event 20 years ago, but I also appreciate some may well have been offended, so asked for it to be pulled. I had originally been inspired by a similarly named FallsCreek thread. It seemed to me Thredbo deserved its own. It would allow people to sing to the treetops in praise of the good, and allow them to vent their frustration at the bad. Resort visitors could take that on board in terms of places they visit, or don't visit. You never know, the resort may also take on board criticisms, and improve the place. My list of positives was something like; Snowmaking. Good. On. You. Thredbo. Marginal conditions can now be quite good on trails with snowmaking. Al Fresco pizza still rocks. I had some great food at Cascades. The Bistro atCrackenback is much improved with quality food, friendly service and when I was there a table to sit at. The restaurant at Crackenback remains reliably good, with good food and service. Negatives included; Overcrowding of runs, dangerously so, in peak periods. At its worst there's a real safety issue. Thredbo either needs to limit ticket sales in peak periods where there is limited open terrain, or look to open new terrain. The long awaited new lift is now sadly overdue. Time to hit the "go" button. Snowmaking on runs like Dream Run should proceed ASAP. I love Candlelight but the food quality dropped off this year, I assume due to a new chef. Hopefully they can lift that for the balance of the year, or next year. Thredbo needs to stop acquiring all the businesses in the village. You're killing the "village" atmosphere. Surely you can exercise some quality control without owning all the businesses? I was borderline on River Inn. I personally hate it, but recognise lots of people have a different view. But given the choices at FF are a (much improved) overcrowded Cafeteria, or an ear splitting venue with stodge food, surely Thredbo can look at another outlet? Crazy talk here, but how about an independent operator? Yes, you can go elsewhere on the mountain but for beginner adults and children (and those tied to them) this is the only reasonably feasible location (noting Merrits is an overcrowded sh%% fight).
