Off to Falls This weekend, should be there 25 to 28 August 2011. Option A is looking like a high camp out on Spion Kopje. Might need to take sandshoes as well as the ski boots. Will test drive a pair of BD Seeker boots as well.

    Herro.

What made these tracks coming from the water in this melt hole?

Or is it a set of tracks going to the hole then departing again?

It looks like a bird using it's wings as feet. But I can't explain the sharp holes in the snow.

Near the base of Middle Paralyser, Perisher Range.

    I wondered about that.

There seems to be two sets of sharp cuts in the snow, but only one set of 'bird wing/seal flipper' tracks?

Camped on the Saturday night on the Razorback and hiked on Sunday, lovely day, plenty of snow in the gullies, and an easy walk out on the ridges. Amazing difference in the snow on each run, every gully was split in two, SE facing side was icy all day, NW facing side was spring loveliness. Shared some runs with a Tele named Mat, he was lapping us!
Important to warm up before, luckily we have an incamp masseuse:

At least i now know how you got your forum name. i reckon i'd be doing that lots if i went into the backcountry with "came a lotta".

Top notch. And the buns of steel on the right look alright to. The cover looks like late September, not August.

I have upset the moderator of the Hoppett thread.
I have dared to voice discent!!
I have been gagged from expression!!

Good that you guys have sense of humour here!

It has been of great dismay the events of a tragic death close to summitt of Mt Feathertop.

So in my own little way i hope to free up track from Barrier to Helipad on Nthn FT approach. This is only a little contribution for others that may stroll up higher in the near future. Also i will buy some overproof rum and after a small drink i will leave bottle for rest of you in Federation Hut shortly.

We need the humour of the above posts a [IMG] specially at moment.Glad i share mountains with you guys and girls. [IMG] trolls trolls do they board.ski, tele what of trolls???

Is there much left in it Ziggy? I was really hoping to get up to Stirling this season but it looks pretty dismal. Would a trip up to BHP in a week or so be worthwhile or should I just hang up my skis for the season. Well, I have already hung them up but should I just leave them there! It's a real shame, I've had about 7 days or so on the snow this season which is quite good for me but I was expecting so much more. So much anticipation, then bleuch!

Sorry IM, after buggering myself doing Bogong with some extras, no cam this time.

Weerab, up high on the south and south-west facing slopes there's good spring snow cover still. We've had a goodly number of freezes o/n to combat the warm sunny days to mean that the snow on Sunday wasn't softening, under full sun, til about 11. About 1 cm of fresh last night.

Spion and Nelse still looked good today on those aspects. Heathy Spur too. Top of Nelse Sth is bare but I'd bet the south slope and SE through the trees would still be good.

As for getting up there, expect to walk a fair way before getting the skis on.

PS, today's views were from the cabin of a new Husky oversnow provided by Falls resort mgt to med evac an injured skier from the S of the BHP. I was his 'carer'.

The cooperation at the grass roots level btwn all the agencies, police, ambos, resort ski patrollers and mgt and others ensured that an incapacitated skier got out with the best care and the least discomfort and is a tribute to them all.

A guy aggravated a back injury skiing with a heavy pack. Got to the the point where he was in agony moving or still.

Police were called at about 8am. Cover was too patchy for skidoos so they came in with the rubber tracked groomer to flatten some of the drifts on the BHP road, followed by the Husky oversnow. Large dose of poppy juice needed to move him. Patient checked out by the FC medical centre then Mt Beauty hospital. Seen AH by physio Greg Mclennan bless him. Now on the mend slowly.

A couple of weeks ago on Bogong, a zipper on my tent stuffed up and one pole snapped. I sent it off to Bogong Equipment in Little Bourks St (where I got it from) to see what they could do. Found out yesterday that they have fixed my zipper and my pole, plus given me a couple of spare pole segments. All at no cost to me. Nice to get good customer service like that, will be happy to buy more stuff from them.

I spent a night out on Mt Wheatley last weekend. The snow was rock hard in the morning so I skied back to perisher for a bacon and egg roll. It was my first time snow camping, I really enjoyed it and my gear performed well.
