I have an Andromeda - could get it out and measure it up for you for the specs if you want.

Given that the diameter can be determined from the sleeve size you've got at least that. Then I reckon you could order the longest poles & then if they're too long, cut back one of the sections with a hacksaw. That could work.

    Jackpot
I'll take whatever info i can get from you! I cant rememeber what the poles were made from either?

    I'll owe you a beer!!

Yep you can also purchase generic alum sections online. So if you know the lengths it will be easy to make a new set. Buy the elastic cord from an outdoor shop - probs 2mm but double check. It's fairly easy to reassemble the parts into a new pole. Bit of patience required threading the elastic.... Getting the correct end fittings for the eyelets (if any) might be the tricky bit

Quick google fol pole sections shows these guys have end bits too:

3 identical pieces. Each made up of 9 subsections. All subsections 10mm diameter (measured with some basic calipers) 8 of the sections are 402 mm long (excluded round aluminium tip at end of about 3mm). The exposed positive sleeve makes up 39 mm of this 402 mm. The last, shorter sub-section is 243 mm long (excluding the rounded tip) - with the tip included it measures @ 248 mm. It seems to be made of an aluminium alloy. This is the info for the OLDER Andromeda, not the Andromeda 2 - which has carbon fibre poles of 9mm diameter and a different tensioning system. However, if the length was similar you'd possibly be OK with the A2 poles.

Absolutely- without this forum and posts from the backcountry peeps in particular I wouldn't have been able to choose the right skis, know how to install my own bindings, know what GPS to avoid, get an idea of what tents to consider etcetera!

So, no doubt this is a really dumb question, but these dynafit/?Mej..whatever bindings - are they for teleskiing with alpine boots, or are they the latest pure tele binding?

I'm back to Rottefella 3 pin bindings and Scarpa T3/4's, just from a weight point of view. Didn't find any additional benefit from cables (annoying to get in to) release cables (never needed them to release), binding lifters etc, so just decided to drop the weight and enjoy life. Do these new bindings add anything that I might be missing, or shall I just plod on?

These "new" tele bindings offer resistance free touring mode, which is a quantum leap in efficiency and pleasure on the up. On the down they ski fantastically but are really light, about 500g (not as light as 3 pins)
They use NTN tele boots (no duckbill) , not AT boots.
Think crack climbing with old hex's vs modern cams or x-ray vs MRI :)

New tier gear handmade quilt and pillow from tasmania came today. Normally -12 comfort rating but i got them to put in extra fill. 900 grams total weight!

So much nicer than a traditional sleeping bag; super warm but much more comfort and versatility.

I ordered the 195cm version which im very pleased about. Can easily immerse myself from head to toe in the snuggly cocoon!

Cant wait to try it snow camping soon

Is there anywhere designated for overnight parking at Selwyn? Or is it park wherever or park nowhere?

    Have an annual pass.

Hoping to tour from there when the snow arrives, rather than from Kiandra.

    Thanks.

We're thinking of canning our trip into Grey Mare cos of lack of snow.
We were planning on heading up from GPS on Monday but want to go skiing and definitely not walking.
If anyone has accurate info on snow cover that way we'd appreciate the goss.
Apparently you have to walk to Whites ATM before putting skis on a v thin cover.
Otherwise we're packing the van and heading north. :(

No! Gate would prolly be locked and it's a huge haul up that hill particularly if carrying skis! Would not like, no!

Or from Bradney picnic area on Everards. Show snowshoeman that you are made of tough stuff.

The regrowth through to Grey Mare would be character building at this time of year. And you could visit Pretty Plain too.

Definitely meet north of the Geehi. I wouldn't want to get wet feet. Maybe even north of Happy Jacks, so that @tele-whippet can enjoy quality sled pulling terrain :)

Can anyone report on what the ski/walk differential is up from Dead Horse Gap / The Cascades to the Ramsheads at the moment?

Hoping to have a crack this weekend and don't want to have to walk it too far.

    cheers
