Have you done Tathra? If you get that far south, it still rates as one of my all time favourites.

my worry is that eventually they may hitch a ride then adapt e.g as they appear to have in Taren Point .

Taren Point is not so much "adaption" (in the biological sense) as micro climate and opportunism....that's not to say they may not adapt over time if not eradicated.

May well I been one of mine. Nabbed one hitch hiker from the olds place near Lismore on the driveway in East Jindi earlier this year, made the trip ok but didn't survive the wheelie bin sauna.
Good to see the crows and currawongs up that way have adapted to the cane toads somewhat - they flip last nights roadkill on their backs and take out their stomach and contents thru the mouth.

I find this part really interesting given the drama of recent proposals to study Phasmids on BP. I guess the AM has a little more clout than a couple of dirtbaggers with the same interest and potential qualifications.

Finally, at the tail end of this period (weather dependent), the AM will conduct a daring survey of the sheer cliff faces of Balls Pyramid, in search of further specimens of the rare LHI Phasmid. As Balls is almost entirely inaccessible and rarely climbed, it will require the expertise of specialist climbers to conduct this survey.

Yes, as always there are tradeoffs. These do have a spike under ball of foot that might help somewhat.

I think the design brief is very much "climb up whilst snow is hard, ice, or rock. Then ski down".

Only time I ever really want points is when I have skied into something, and have to get back out. Those look like they would do the job very well.

No is the simple answer, but I have a couple of pairs of aluminium Camp crampons -10 and 12 point, I think. They weigh 300g or less, and I have used them surprisingly often on Bogong. I don't see a reason for changing them, as sometimes the afternoon freeze requires the rear points.

They are light enough that I wouldn't search around for anything else - 300g is usually my weight limit for "stuff" to be carried/worn. The only heavier but of clothing in winter is a RAB neutrino jkt.

Good to see the whisper lite is still in the mix. 22 years for mine....still going strong.

Sure theres faster, noisier, cuter stoves out there but love, love is earnt, it is about growing together, having crises and epiphanies, making up, and forging on.

When folk with short term relationships and attention spans are all throwing out their reactors, jetboils and windburners, ill still be pumping my whisperlite

Yeah. Im a convert too. Ignitor wire can be a bit critical though if you bend it so thats the only misstrust i have. Usually toss the pocket rocket in just in case. Old habits die hard.

Used a borrowed one for the first time last year in high winds/blizzard. Need a TAFE course to get that sucker sorted!! Am in the market and think I'll go with a numpty proof wind proof canister type...
