Well, a few other forums have their BBQ threads etc, I just thought that maybe we could have one going in here? Just for all those little bits and pieces etc...
One thing it could be handy for is why I this up; As I pack up the car to head down for the weekend, I was thinking if anyone has been out in the last day or two could check in and let us know how they found it out there?
Also post mini reports/bit and pieces in here and perhaps use it to find partners for the weekend etc?

If not I'm sure this will die it's natural death...

So, I'm heading down this arvo with the missus & a mate, not sure where we are launching from (prob Guthega)... Who else is heading out?

Its probably a damaged lateral meniscus dating back to a banana boat trip down Smiggins when I was at school. Non release of rental skis with all the action at my left knee, on crutches for 2 months then apparently OK BUT twice over the years it has blown up like a balloon when loading/compressing that knee whilst walking, once on the Arthur Plains and the other time in The Grand Canyon USA.
For the past few years the knee has been getting more painful skiing, patricularly tele-ing to the left and heel hooking while climbing.
A couple of weeks ago I stepped down off a ladder onto that leg and got intense pain on the outside of my knee.
Can only now parallel turn on skis but with major discomfort. Need to ice it and take anti-inflammatories to stop it swelling.
Maybe I'm just getting old and pushing the bod too much (tore my right hamstring last year and popped 2 discs the year before)
Hopefully, if it is the meniscus, then the problem can be helped with an arthroscopic procedure.

good luck TW, i pulled muscles my dodgy back again last week, voltarens did nothing but the goanna oil deep heat stuff made a massive difference

i thought the 'chatter' was the sounds of my skis on the tassie ice and rocks i had last week and the sound of my teeth coming loose in the wind

well TW, i wanted to do Ben Lomond, Rufus and Mt Field.......I got up Ben Lomond twice, Mt Field was planned for Sunday / Monday when all the roads were out due to snow and blizzards, and Rufus or Cradle died due to having 3 small kids and a rooted back

So ultimately i had a couple of days on the in-laws farm near Perth-Longford, and then 5 days in Swannick on the east coast, doing little couple-of-hour walks in Freycinet with the kids with an apparent air temp of around 2 or 3 degrees. Its amazing how the sun always shines there!

We went to the Trowunna mole creek wildlife park with the kids and this is what the Central Plateau looked like from Chudleigh or Chursleigh thats halfway between Deloraine and Mole Creek.

Think it may be Yarrongbilly Caves !!!

    Good luck with rehabilitation. [IMG]

Nice mr, good timing with the trip.
Always have thought Ben Lomond must be great for "Scottish Ice".
    Its on the bucket list.
Hope your back gets better, I can sympathise with your pain.
Stretching is great for keeping mine useable.

    Cool pic mr.

t-w - I'm very impressed by your packraft / rubber ducky trip down the Franklin in 1980. Would love to hear a summary of the period one day. I suggest over a single malt in a tent somewhere on the main range, or over a dark beer in a pub, post-climbing.

    Cute pixie you have there MR ;-}

TW, best wishes with the surgery. Sad that your cauterising thingy wasn't that multifunctional.

IM, hope you have a great time. So was the cat to be the new snow mitt or does it ski?

    ...

I've been up to Hotham last three days for tele lessons with dossa5 (great instructor btw).

Tues the weather was atrocious; yesterday very poor; finally today the cloud lifted and it was fab. Powder snow on a firm base. Could see all the mountains in the region.

Driving to and fro Mt Beauty each day and today got one of the big fella in the morning and another in the evening.

I climbed (hiked) a local peak today (in Japan). The summer mountain flowers are blooming and on the summit I found 16 different wild flowers in an area the size of a lounge room. I'm not so much a flower kind of guy, but the hills are my home and I love every detail for each season. When you stop and look at what is at foot level, the mountains can keep you entertained just as much. It was stinking hot and humid on the descent so we sat in a old-snow melt cave over a stream to cool off. The releif was mindblowing. Instant air con and happy mountain times.

Keep the Tas pics rolling. We are still looking for a simple home and a move back there, if it will ever happen.

    Ah the cultural losses of migration ;-}

Trad. family name was Ernst Sigmund Reeders. So you got one right [IMG]

I was born here so the folks gave me Ernest R. FFS.

But Sigmund as a user name? ("Ja, joost lie down on ze couch and tell me your fantazies about your mudder".)

    ....

You can contact Dossa5 via the forum. Do a Display name search over the last month and PM him.

    Helluva nice guy too.

    Correction: it's dossa5

Nice pics of Bogong Ziggy, has me keen to get out somewhere.
Sadly my season proper hasn't started yet and I can't even blame the body!

A major home paving project I started over Easter is taking way longer than expected but hopefully next weekend I'll strap the skis on. Have 5 days booked at Hotham for early Sept.

GS, the cover there's hit 1m and barring, er, unpredictable weather, you should get some great spring skiing in.

I was drooling looking at the Razorback today.

Damian, absolutely. The micro view can be a knock-out too.

Just ordered some Voile Switchbacks to put on my Guides as I think these might be better to tour in with my T3's than either my CRB 3-pin HW's or NTN for my dodgy knee and they'll be lighter (I can easily swap bindings as they're mounted with a B&D switch plate)
Will try anything to keep the season going----hopefully the surgeon agrees!

Good luck with the new rig TW.

I ski SB on Telebry Safeouts on Boundless and World Pistes (have to unscrew and swap them).

The tour mode is sinfully easy and a cinch to change.

FWIW I have no ACL in one knee and the physio prescribed a light brace, for proprioception not biomechanical insurance.

Yeah I'm wearing a hinged brace, more so I don't overflex and twist the knee = pain ++

4 mile hut is a good base since they dropped the old box of gelly in the dunny.

Good luck getting the pot belly alight.

Just got back from Feathertop, first (& hopefully the last) weekend on snowshoes for the season. Saturday looked good but we didn't explore much. Visibility on Sunday was terrible, but we summitted on principle. Lots of snow, didn't take the shoes off till 500m up from Wombat Gap. Cover looks like August in previous years, though the weather quickly reminds you it's still July [IMG]

Lessons learnt: Fitness is lacking, & NW Spur gets steeper every year.

Spent the better part of two weeks at Snowy Plains. Superb touring conditions in places I haven't skied for years. Strange snow cover though. The wind has created havoc right up to Jagungal. Anyone doing K to K might want to get on it as was fully covered three days ago but you know...rain is a coming! Id put a TR up for the area but still cant drive this thing.

    what was the snow like?

Was mostly wind packed on the western faces. Sun was only softening the slopes facing due north so limited skiing available. We all got a good lines down Carruthers North on saturday and a short but sweet run in crusty pow on the southern face of the Sentinel. Had packed on south side of sentinel ridge. North side of the crags was either hard packed or super gluggy. SNow was softening by yesterday morning as the temperature rised. By the time we got to CP around lunchtime snow cover was very spring like and slow. Few flurries on the way out yesterday morning.

TC might do so. Neighbours thereof. Had to dig and bash our way around Nimmo. Highlight might have been skiing aussie July powder (hoar frost) under a clear sky and full moon.

Got the peas planted out, 2 coats wax on the skis and most of the kit that was spread all over the floor in 4 rooms from last ski trip ( 8 to 10 July) is now clean dry and in more sorted piles. The wildeandfree one did 67 km in the AUMC Rogaine and came 2nd womens by only 60 points.
