If you are in Schladming on a Sunday night or Tux in the Zillertal on a Monday then you might see this at the Tenne bar.

Would love to see Antonia in the flesh. No pun.

In other news, looks like Mont Blanc and surrounding are about to be powderfied in a big way!

And Zermatt is starting to look more promising. T minus 3 weeks

@Jellybeans1000 Does Morris get more stuff wrong than other forecasters do? Are there other comparable resources that present the info in a fashion that is as easy to understand by laymen?

For me, wepowder presents info better than any other resource. UX thing. It sounds logical and obvious, but virtually no other site presents you with an updated list showing power forecast, from highest to lowest.

For a layman, you have these guys, there's Meteo France (actual government), snowforecast.com, Onthesnow, UK Ski Club Forecast, etc. They all rely on GFS(except MF that relys on ARPEGE that is worst and EC in the long term which is best), so pick anyone of them and you will get similar accuracy...

Forums like snowheads, etc do explain things in layman terms (most of the time) and the wisdom of the crowd makes it more accurate.

This is for Cham - top squiggles temp, bottom squiggles precip. Its based off GFS: http://old.wetterzentrale.de/pics/MS_746_ens.png

Last 3 numbers in the URL are Lat/Lon so you can get it for anywhere.

yep. this is the sort of presentation that makes wepowder a joy to use. Saves lots of time if one checks it every hour or two.

A 7yo can read that heat map and tell you which resorts to visit to maximise pow riding

The main issue is whether its accurate. Is it?

We're in Chamonix in about a week's time so I'd appreciate a huge dump of fresh snow. Please arrange.

But my quixotic quest to ski Alagna seems doomed for the 3rd time. North Italy had a great November but not much since.
Looks like we will head somewhere else. One day I will actually get to ski there.

These lows just keep coming from the North.... Southern Alps look poor:mad: Many euro snow folk I know are getting very anxious. Not much hope even in the long long term.
Meanwhile Cham and the Western Alps do pretty well out of the next storm.

When referencing the southern alps what resorts does this typically cover? Anything south of Chamonix?

Also who do you guys use for sim cards in Europe? I'm mainly interested in a data type sim if possible.

Vodafone $5/day roaming. Back home I get unlimited calls and texts and 6GB data per month. Here in France I still get the same allowance and it includes both Australian and French numbers.

I'll be looking for A1 later today in St Johann im Pongau
last week I saw a sim deal in Munich for a 'Euro Sim' that was supposedly for the whole of Europe
last year travelling in France, Jersey and Spain it was tedious having change sims everywhere

Thanks jellybeans. Appreciate your posts both here and snowheads. Hopefully things turn around for the Southern alps soon!

Piolet don't you mean $150? Piste Again that's pretty good, unfortunately the Optus equiv. is only 50mb @ $10 a day!

Tel$tra are probably the worst - $300/30 days with 2.2GB, but you can only buy a 3, 7, 14 or 30 day pass so if you're going for 21 days (as we currently are) you pay for days you don't use. Optus' 50MB/day is a joke, especially since most people will be using maps and all sorts of things when roaming.

Vodafone's pretty crap outside major centres but we don't go bush much so it's not really an issue - in Sydney the connection is often better than the others. For us it's probably the best option.

the sim card discussion deserves its own thread. Handy resource.

I've used this one in Italy - https://www.tim.it/tim-visitors-en. So sensible - I don't know why this kind of thing isn't available in more countries. Purchase process is a bit of a faff (pre-order and pay online and pick up from a TIM store once you're in country)

Some great deals for Euro skiing floating around at the moment, even in regions that have gotten decent snow like the Arlberg. Here's a few from my inbox today.

£361 ($600) for 7 days in St Anton including return flights from UK, transfers and meals!

First 2 days with the family in Zermatt. The place wins hands down for scenery. Kids ski free - bonus we didn't expect. Up high the skiing on piste is currently pretty awesome. Skied Cervinia today which has better snow. Zero wind and not a cloud in the ski. Only thing is the valley is pretty much in drought - I'm not kidding, they have had virtually no precipitation for months - everything brown and dried off. Snow line is at about 2200m or so and even then, not deep. Off piste = zero. I'm surprised but they have a really good snow making on which the resort is now fully reliant apart from the glacier. Infrastructure is amazing - trains, cable cars, gondolas etc. It's a quiet week here - a few Aussies about, but really no pressure on the runs at all (good week to be here). Locals tell me that the depressed GBP and the strong CHF is hurting and the snow issues are not helping. No snow is forecast - be good if it changed but I reckon it would take something major to open any further skiing, so am happy with the bluebird forecast.
