Your the one who asked on snowheads too... answered your question there. I haven't been doing any long term forecasts for a little while. Really need to get back into it

And as for Accuweather, yeah... no.

GFS 10th to 16th looks mildly promising though. I would not panic just yet.

This is what I often use for Cham - it's just GFS. Will update:

Bottom squiggles are precip. Doesn't look amazing but at least it's unsettled.

After much deliberation I've decided to spend all of my second week in the Arlberg instead of heading to Zermatt for all or some of the week. I've got 4 nights staying in St Anton and 3 in Lech. Can't wait

Ozgirl, have you decided where your second ski week is going to be?

    Nice!

Accommodation in Austria seems to getting booked up very quickly. Luckily, I'd booked everything except the last three nights in Lech months ago.

indeed the Anschluss was phase 1 even before the annexation of the Sudetenland and resulted in the deaths of many Austrian citizens
I reckon 'don't mention the war' includes making lame jokes about it

Excellent news! The rains this winter/spring for southeast Australia have been really pretty good. Murray- Darling with a good flush and recharge and dams full. Fingers crossed for 2017.

16-19th looks good for all of the Alps on EPS Control and CFS. Yes I know, limited confidence, but something to watch.

We had our first day out at Avoriaz today. Very icy in places though the half a foot or so that fell wednesday/thursday meant that there were some softer patches, especially off the sides of the runs, though the rocks weren't far below the surface. Bloody cold, too - minus 13 at one point.

The crowds were really bad due to a lot of runs being closed and all the punters being funnelled into the remaining ones, and these Froggies ski like maniacs - super fast and don't mind brushing you as they go past. On the busy runs I was holding the stocks out behind me at about 30 degrees so anyone blasting past too close was risking impalement.

There's not much on the horizon - accuweather predicts about another 6 inches over the next week. Hope they're wrong!

Conditions are unreal here in Innsbruck, last week we were hiking dry trails to mountain huts for beers in the sun, this week we have had a great dump with powder turns and a ripper base to set us up for the rest of the month. Stubairer Glacier (3000m) the highlight thus far.

St Anton brought my wife and I (plus 9 month old) back to Austria. Its very cool. But quickly discovering there is much more to Austria than just St Anton.

Dunno how well you know the area but the top tip when it's like this is to head to the plaine dranse / linga area. Because it's in Chatel you need a full PDS pass (which some people will avoid) which means it's a little bit less busy.

Most of the skiing is well above 1600m and there's snowmaking even on the higher parts. This is unlikely chavanette/ hauts forts areas which are of similar height, but a bit more exposed, and I don't think the snowmaking is extensive.

Thanks for the tip. Today we largely stuck in Les Lindarets because we have a fairly inexperienced skier with us who was only just starting to cope with blue runs at the end of the day, so we should be able to spread out a bit now. We skied Plaine Dranse a fair bit last visit and quite enjoyed it.

The interesting part about today was that back home the usual logic is to avoid the shaded parts of the runs and ski where the sun is, but here it's the opposite - in the sun it was icy but in the shade there was a bit of soft on top.

I'll be in Saalbach for a week from 28 January. Seeing as it's forecast for 41 degrees here today in Adelaide can't wait to escape to winter. First time I've skiied Austria and looks like an inspired choice this year :)

In Kitzbuhel in a week and then two weeks in Saalbach. Kitzbuhel was meant to be Dolomites - but cancelled there a couple of days ago. Just a disaster zone snow wise. Zero snow out of this system compared to 50cm at Saalbach. And more to come. Saalbach - best resort in Austria by miles. And most Aussies have never heard of it......but then they're all in Niseko.

Hey, I went to Niseko last year and I'm off to Saalbach this year LOL

To be fair, I did only find out it about after a fair bit of research on Euro resorts.

Agree this. Chatel was hands down my favourite part of the PDS region. A glorious sun trap on blue sky days, however I've only been in peak season and I'd imagine it'd turn to porridge in spring.

We had a restful day today after three of our party of 5 woke up with really sore feet courtesy of too-tight bootfitting (rectified last night). Three of us went up to Grande Terche, which has only two green runs open at present. Very icy apart from a few small stashes but at 7 euros each for a 2.30 late start you can't go past it for a bit of fun.

Seriously reminiscent of our trip to the indoor place at Dubai last april : ride poma up, ski down, repeat. We were getting in about 20 laps an hour.

Good to see that Stoffl is still training them. We used his company to organise the coaches and training for the ADF team last year. Great bunch of people.
