    It was sarcasm.

That trip those splitboaders did into the Columbia Icefield was fantastic.

But will be largely ignored, even though it is the natural world freely available to all of us.

On the other hand, building a ski resort, aka shopping mall and theme park, on a glacier is deemed special.

it's good that they'll be largely ignored, we don't want everyone out doing that [IMG] [IMG]

Bullshit, there's money to be made from aspiring backcountry people! It is the new wave, getting bigger every year.

Just for the record, I really enjoyed that report. The exploration of a snowy mountain area and the scenery and the team work. Really good stuff.

Well no ice fields in Japan. But if you're prepared to hike and know what you're doing (like those guys did), there is an abundance of steep terrain and good snow in Japan.

Seeing as you are speaking like an expert without any emotional bias, could you please clarify on what basis that terrain is different to what can be found in Japan, besides the glaciers. In your clarification, please cite a few mountain landscape in Japan which come close to what Smitty pictured and highlight the similarities, then explain in what ways they differ (there are a few). If you had pictures taken by yourself personally in those mountain landscapes, it would help your cause greatly.

    Go on, blow me away.

Well damian, as everyone well knows and is considered common knowledge, whilst Japan might have some snow, it's not worthy visiting a resort where every mountain can be serviced entirely by a Magic Carpet.

Resorts?! What the hell are you talking about resorts for?

    "Every mountain"

    Nice troll.

I wouldn't have tried to answer my question if I were you either. But go on, Expert on Japanese Mountains, back up your bullshit with fact.

Funny how a really good thread gets smashed by little battles.

Great story in the OP. Love the images and the courage and skill on show. [IMG]

Hi VSG - it isn't actually a "really good thread". It is a link to another really good thread on another forum (no slight intended at _im_)

I think that is what they mean when they say "turn on the downhill side of the mogul"
