Had a line of cells move through Sydney Metro area this evening right on dusk. A low key event but enough to fire off a few frames. Main cell moved over Manly and intensified out the sea. Uneventful, inbound shelf cloud video HERE (although a couple of meso-cyclones visible).

I was surprised to wake up to the rumbles of thunder this morning! Some bright flashes and loud bangs going on in South Yarra.

Cut off low forming SW of the bight brings a cold shot of air for South Coast WA tomorrow. Looks vigorous for this time of year.
It interacts and draws in moisture from the inland trough over SA by tomorrow night. GFS has it bottoming out @978hPa by Wednesday morning.

I am in Perth for Christmas, specifically Preston Beach (about 90km south of Perth city) and it has been the mildest Christmas I can recall for at least 5 or so years.

Aircon has not even been turned on, nights are pleasant to sleep in.

I like the prospect of a good light show in the early afternoon of Thursday, throughout Central Vicco. Looks like a sweaty day ahead of it though.

No shortage of moisture! Good dryline progged too.

Over the last month it's been largely; marginally-warmer, wetter DEC for Tas.

So I feel with the end of a late spring in DEC we'll see things average out even more. SOI Anomalies have cold Southern Ocean waters to the S/SW of Tas, yielding a good chance at cooler mean temps than DEC and a return to mean precip totals IMO.

it's a classic winter/early-spring cut off hitting the south coast (Esperance/Albany etc.) today. Very unique for this time of the year. Some cool minimums over the next few days IMO.

Some serious heat and high humidity heading towards Sydney. Looks like it will be extremely unpleasant for the next few days.

Fortunately I'm in Manchester where at the time of writing it's a very pleasant 2C :)

Beware holiday time "news". Today we are filling news bulletins with "heatwave" scaremongering. Good change from car accident and drowning score boarding that usually gets a good run at this time of year.
