Edit typo to NE flow S/China sea
Yeah I do. Thanks. the NE flow in the South China Sea
According to the BOM the minimum at Observatory Hill was 27.1C overnight which is the warmest ever December minimum and second only to that February 2011 reading of 27.6C. I feel privileged to have been part of it.
Interestingly (to me anyway ) the temperature in Wollongong rose around 10C between 12.30am and 2am as the wind swung round to the NW, with 5C of this increase between 1am and 1.05am
So ( stating the obvious ) the relative position of the Hadley Cell moves South of the Eq as we shift into the s hem summer ?
Then moves North towards the Eq in our Winter.
Here i quickly marked this earth map for you, feel free to dispute anything you agree with.
Cool change has reached Moruya - should be in Bateman's soon. Hopefully it picks up speed this afternoon and reaches further north ealier than it snail like crawl up the coast today. Braidwood is showing a solid drop as well.
Yeah I do remember from a while ago that SE trades west of WA meant a Hadley cell in development. Map will come in handy for many.
With the sub tropical ridge, I think.
Then we are further monitoring SAM / AAO as a direct consequence .
Still negative, which isn't great for summer.
That should flip over the next few weeks. i think you may see some fronts but nothing really strong mostly all weak.
Looking good in Ulladulla - Jervis Bay very soon
And there goes Jervis Bay - Kiama next - then the Gong then that awful city to the north.
She blew in around 3 O'çlock.
Blissfully 20 degrees now and the flies are gorn !
It's really just all the patterns and processes I have observed since I started "weather watching " as a kid...
All I had was synoptic and satellite charts to predict surf and snow.
Now putting a name and the science to it all .....
Steady rain, 16 degrees and falling.
Nice ----- Dargan, Upper Blue Mtns
Sitting on the balcony listening to the rain accompanied by Koel song ...
Sydney summer things
Now a blissful 22C in that dreadful city to the North with light rain falling.
Aaah, that's much better. Might get a decents nights sleep tonight.
Thank you God.
12 degrees and mizzle this morning
16c in Glenbrook and light rain. Morning ride to work was v-nice.
A perfect day for a drainage inspection ....
and the weather for 24 & 25 December for Canberra is???????
Think there will be a few showers around.
*240 hrs .....
Friends of mine driving through central Tassie just posted an insta-story of snow to around 1000m. Hello Summer!
Another strong cold front sweeping through here in Vicco. I reckon the last stationary high pressure system we had down here was in May. Some sort of record for volatility in the atmosphere.
Summer snow in TAS.
Three days either side of Christmas. Most certain time for it to snow in Tassie I reckon. Summer starts about the 16th Jan, ends about March 10th.
Don't know where this came from, but it is looking much better for a White Christmas
In Central and Southern Tasmania at least.
Think of it as a 50-60% chance
True, but I am actually more surprised at the levels! -32C at 500mb is some seriously cold uppers for this time of year.
Great Lake Hotel TAS today
Well it's going to be cold camping on Boxing Day
Anomaly on the model run, I'd say. Virtually no hope on latest couple of runs (GFS & EC).
And Baw Baw
Then why are BOM going for 29 in Melbourne and 31 in Canberra for 24th? and Adelaide 34!!!
It was bloody cold at the top of Kinglake this morning.
9 degrees, just put the heater on.
Big storm through Ipswich / Brisbane yesterday afternoon. Much roof damage, hail, flash flooding (50mm in 30 minutes etc etc.) We dodged another one here up on the Nthn end of the Sunny Coast.........again went nth west of us............Touch wood.
Nice to hear a rumble here in Melbourne this morning.
Almost had forgotten what thunder sounds like.
Looks like it is going to get pretty warm friday for 4-5 days, then potentially a big change with a decent drop
Really nice little storm cells came right over me, nothing spectacular, but we havent had that at all this spring/summer so i'll take it. 5mm dropped at my place but we got a couple of really good ones, big drops.
@smitty484 is coming to VIC for xmas, pls blame him for 30+ weather.
Not enough humidity for it to be bris weather!
You sent the humidity to Japan.
I observe some crackling around Moruya & Tuross Head.
and another big system up Northern NSW / Q border areas.
Was cracking in Canberra this morning
