No forum love for Silver Star for the upcoming winter season ?
I'm locked in for 11 Feb -> 18 Feb
Never managed to get there when I was living in Canada but I heard great things about it. Heaps of good looking terrain, and a bit more off the radar than places like Big White.
Curious how you are getting there if you're only doing a one resort trip?
I'm at Sun Peaks first, hoping to get an inter-resort shuttle over
Short stay this year, only three weeks, 8th Jan to 27th, wife is retiring and heading off for a round the world trip when I get back. Will be my tenth visit to SS, I like it, something for everyone and suits me fine.
Last chance early bird lift passes...get in before 31/10/2016
We love it too.....oldest child thinks it's his fav hill so far.....and he has seen many. Girl child is still Apex driven.
Took advantage of the early bird family season pass, bargain. Tried most of the well known resorts in BC and Alberta as well as the USA. SS ticks all the boxes.
This would be a box of scrolls I assume.
Where you been Mark, haven't heard from you in ages, about time you came for a ski.
I've been around, no skiing in 2015 and only Perisher in 2016, BUT 3 weeks in US in Jan 2017.
Wanted to do Silver Star, but the Perisher Pass and Frequent Flyer flights to San Francisco sealed the deal. So we are skiing in the Lake Tahoe region. This time we will have all the kids with us, so you will probably hear us up in SS.
Only about 5 more years until we can just go and leave the kids to look after themselves, but who's counting.
Four weeks to go! Putnam and Silverwoods opened today. Very cold this week, -18c every day.
clips from there look amazing at the moment.
Yep, the annual stampede at the gate was on, not sure why, plenty of area to go to out the back.
Good friend that traveled to LL with me last week is a Vernon resident and longtime SS passholder. He skied the day after opening and said they shouldn't really have opened. He had to jump 5 open creek crossings in one run alone. Now since then it has snowed, got cold, and snowed again. They're back on track for a good Christmas season.
Good way to start the trip, 15cm overnight but a lot more than that over the back. Doubles on Putnam were the pick later after everything was chopped up. Looked like an official sick day in Vernon today, very busy.
Pretty empty over at Apex.....gorgeous snow all day
Snowing now so should be another good day tomorrow, less crowded too I think.
Son and granddaughters arrived today, girls highly excited. Should be an interesting couple of weeks. Glad it is warming up next week otherwise I doubt that I could get them out.
good to see you're enjoying yourself - you bast@rd!
not much snow this summer in Canberra!
No I hear that it is very hot there. Had a couple of good dumps and a few days with 5cm overnight, made for some nice skiing. Bit skinny on some of the steep runs, lots of rubbish and stumps exposed, probably about 60cm less snow than this time last year. Girls are going well, can handle the blue runs and have had them down groomed black runs, can't keep them out of the trees. I am staying out longer but getting less runs I think. Back holding up. Doing something wrong with posting photos can't get it to work.
They are all hidden from view.... it's a matter of pressing the little picture Icon and then inserting your address. I have fixed the first post but it is still deleted. I have posted it below. Hope that is okay.
@KneeDeep the family
Thanks Crystal, I think I am getting technically challenged. Must be old age.
never !!!!!.. you ski better than most 20 somethings
200 Aussie skiers lined up at the top of the comet chair, chanting and wearing flags, footy shorts, Aussie tattoos, bikinis, kangaroo onesies and underwear. Do you;
A. Ski past yelling "good on you cobbers."
B. Take off your gear and join in.
C. Cringe and ski down the other side of the mountain.
D. Admire their humour and sense of national pride.
E. Think that if they were in Australia they would be sleeping in and wouldn't be involved in any of the breakfast celebrations.
F. For a split second you thought you were skiing in Bali.....
Happens every year and not just in this resort.
E. Is spot on, young Aussies only seem to celebrate away from home!
I observed Australia Day in a quiet, reserved way. At home.
One of the pubs here in SP had Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again belting out yesterday when I arrived.
Well all safely back home, farkin hot, high 30s, longing for the cold weather already. Sigh!
short trip for you @KneeDeep , they will miss you over at Paradise Camp at morning tea time.
They sure will, normally two of us $5 with tip. Add granddaughters cost me $20 minimum.
Our daughter discovered the Vipers are playing at home tomorrow night. So it's off to Silver Star for a few days. Sorry we missed you this year @KneeDeep. No committee this year and I still cannot ski, but still having fun
Good news Paradise Camp is still trading. Coffee has not changed. Cold here this morning. Vipers lost in overtime last night. It was a scrappy game but a great night never the less.
Snow was badly in need of a top up when I left. Must be getting thin on some of the double diamonds, hope you get freshies soon.
The high starts to break down in the next 24 hours, snow forecast for the next few days now.
Unfortunate we are only at SS for last night and tonight and skied today. We are heading to Vancouver tomorrow so as usual will miss the new snow. We have had a great few weeks in this great country, only a few days left.
KD yep most of the hill is looking quite slick. I stayed mostly to the Blacks and a few groomers, after talking to a couple of locals who had just come out of Nirvana after skiing one of the DB runs above that. They were packing up and going back to Vernon until after the next snow. Rode from first to last lift. Staying warm was hard over the back side with the lift ride and the longish run in and run outs. No one here at all very quiet.
After spending a week at Sun Peaks and some tourist sight seeing it has been a good way to finish the skiing part of the trip here. SS is a great place, very underrated mountain.
Agreed SS very underrated...don't speak to loud though, we don't want it spoilt
Ah, the Apex marketing system. I knew other resorts would pick up on it sooner or later.
Arrived in SS... seems like an amusement park in the snow, after Sun peaks.
Walked around getting the lay of the land waiting for room to get ready. Drinking plenty of craft beers
Woohoo nicely snowing this afternoon.
I've got 2 more ski days here.
Better than the forecast of clear precipitation
Light snowfalls were forecast from early morning today. And for the rest of the week. Nice end to your stay!
Just out of interest, how did you get there? I heard a rumour that the SP to SS shuttle wasn't running this year. It'd be worthwhile to shut the rumour down if it's false.
Sun peaks shuttles dropped me in Vernon and I got a taxi up. There was another passenger they had to get to Kelowna.
Thanks. Sounds like the airport shuttle rather than the inter-resort shuttle.
Well that snow turned out to be wet snot.
Today sticky n slow, very spring like.
Hopefully tonight gets cold to freeze it.
if it does...give Atridge face a go in the morning !!!! Oh I should say only if you want to do some ice skating.
