Wow, that's actually pretty interesting. Cheers Draizuh.
Thought this might be interesting. I took a screenshot of the Cardrona main Webcam on opening day (10th June) and just after the recent snowfall today (30th June). Quite a difference:
They better, just won 4 day passes off the radio
That was an intense bit of precip this afternoon. hopefully its translated to covered rocks in the BC. Ill volunteer to find out for us all.
Looked like the freezing level was pretty high around Cromwell
It sure did rain hard, my old house tends to spring a few leaks when it's like that.
TC Looking much whiter today
Lets hope they open up after this storm rolls through
I got as far as the car park where i sat in my car for 30 mins and decided "**** this noise" good decision.
70cm at roundhill. Classic canterbury over run.
What a day to ski here. I'm jealous. Fresh tracks all day. I wonder if the ridge is open
From Ohau's Facebook page
Roundhill are reporting 1m of new snow at the top of the tbars.
This webcam is really satisfying to watch right now
02/07 11:55:28 - Epic moment of sun with Aspiring showing.
Updated the photo in the thread
Got a few nights up there in august at the chalet as a base for some touring with the wife. 30cm overnight looks great keep piling that stuff up!!
Nice! You got the place fully booked?
We only have one room booked for us That I'm aware of.
$2200 per night 2pax not including optional extras.
Ill take a tent and an hour of heli time.
Not paying near that also including helo time, meals and guide, the chalet is sub let out through numerous operators at much more reasonable rates an inclusions.
Nice. Didn't realise that Marty Myer had made it more available. Before I think it was only available for people who were staying at the lodge by the lake.
Closest I've been is seeing it from the air on days in the North Buchs.
Usually 2nd week of August Marty and his mates have the lodge it fully booked for their annual boys heli charter week. I think they normally only stopped at the chalet for lunch though.
still cheaper than the Minaret chalet.
From what ive heard he stopped letting people use it after a group left it in pretty bad shape. But has become a bit more lenient recently.
I'd want a lot a 'extras' with that....
Vid showing TC conditions. Looks not too bad??
The flying machines are out and about again. This from Tuesday in the North Buchanans. I have to wait another month though.
what year was that vid ^^ ?
looks like all the TC runs are open ,
off-piste areas still to come
but im sensing a metre storm about 7th Aug ...
Coincides nicely then with my arrival on the 6th then Lol
I arrive on the 9th ... as everything reopens ...
Im arriving 29th July
Last year this was a 50cm powder day??
Tuesday is starting to look very nice on the forecast
Video was opening day this year.
Possible front pushing through with low level snow this evening/morning.
Tuesday looking fairly promising too.
Still super early I think fingers crossed its a sign of whats to come for the rest of the season!
looks like a big sno-maker Low forming off East cape this mid week with moist SE incoming off the pacific, sno to 100m in south ;
Hutt and Lyford, Mackenzie might get it big ; prob not as far as cent-O
just after a -6C+rain black-ice event
let the base build ~
The road between Dunedin and Queenstown, well, really from Lawrence through to Millers Flat, was insane on Saturday morning. Took me close to 4 hours to get to Queenstown, haven't seen icing like that in NZ before. Not many people on the road early am, which was good, and everyone seemed to be approaching it sensibly at that time of day.
Be nice if this next system swung a bit more to the S/SW, but ah well.
Snow around the Southern Lakes seems to be pretty cold, lots of facet development. Saw some big temp gradients at the weekend.
I'm hoping Ohau is gonna cop it.
Last year we had a 20cm pow day on arrival.
What I didn't realise were the all the shark fins hiding just under all that goodness.
Had an epic day but needed plenty of ptex after that day.
So, lets have a base this season!!
Sharks are just a fact of NZ skiing.
BC is skiing well at the Remarks.
Nice shot & perspective.
Too true. Think Ohau is the sharkiest of the Mackenzie fields as well.
Thought maybe the thread could be broadened to 'NZ Winter' in general.
Still debating with The Executive Director where we'll go this winter - NZ camper - snow, Fji - surf, Reunion Is - sharks, Southern NSW - surf & snow, with NZ leading the pack at present. Young baby makes things more tricky, as he's not old enough to carry my pack yet.
Couple of shots to get up the stoke, from a trip back in the dark ages, 2010.
First shot - Lindis pass???
It's started to snow!
Its rather snowy...
Snow is good, more needed.
Hi Guys, went to Ohau 2nd July with my son and scored, no people and freshies for 4 days. NZ rocks!
Here's a vid we made.
Doesnt look that good im glad to have been at work dealing with other peoples mistakes....
Nice vid, love Tame Impala, such good music to ride too
