    Tick Tock Tick Tock

So do we think the Minister will let them get away with just a slap on the wrist?

Minister has accepted the resignation of the Chair: http://www.premier.vic.gov.au/ombudsman-report-into-mount-buller-and-mount-stirling-board/

No word yet on the CEO.

Highlight of my season last year was when the Chair parked in our parking spot at Buller, I got to write the most magnificent passive aggressive note on her windscreen, which I wrote on the back of the parking rules notice that I still had in my glovebox, and then emailed the CEO.

The parking situation up there is so absurd and overbearing that it was such a pleasure to see them breaking their own rules and call them on it.

I would suggest the CEO is currently packing up his office.

It's up to the Board to fire the CEO, not the Minister.

    Correct.

Though I guess the Minister can recommend to the board to fire him.

Why he hasn't resigned already is another story....

    Very true.

I just hope the next CEO/Alpine Governance Model puts the razor blade/cost cutting through the organisation.

But the CFO saw it all go through, and didn't alert the board?

And the property mgr: "Almost $16,000 was spent on the property manager's family trip to the French Alps for "research and development" during the 2015 Christmas break.

The manager told the chief executive he believed it was appropriate for the resort to pay for his family's expenses "because we are a very family-oriented resort and it's important for us to experience this as a family".

The manager went on another research and development trip with his family to Jackson, Wyoming in December 2013, at a cost to taxpayers of almost $9,000."

They would already have a budget for redundancy come end of year and the new structure. He will be after that, but this is a corporate governance performance issue so they won't be wanting to give it to him.

I would suggest all the boards will get the boot in the next couple of months....hopefully a management model a heap lower cost to the industry will be the result. Couldn't be more expensive!

Agree. Although I do have concerns that it won't be cheaper.

Also will be interesting to see what happen in terms of funding across the different mountains.

Buller ratepayers aren't going to want to support/ pay for other mountains.

    Who gets higher visitor numbers?

Including all the day trippers through the gate I suspect the rest aren't even close.

Falls and Hotham wouldn't be subsidising Buller.

There is only about $3 million difference in revenue between the resorts - MBMSRMB $14 million approx, MHRMB and FCRMB $11 million approx each. I think that the money generated at each resort would be spent on operations at the resort where it is generated with a contribution to the 'new consolidated board' from each of the resorts.

I'm only guessing, but I think that the new model will be significantly different than just overlaying the current management model as one for the three resorts. Maybe we will see an involvement of local government assuming management of most of the civic operations as happens with beach resorts, other ski resort towns overseas etc????? The new "RMB" may just be a board, not an operational function, setting strategic direction, overseeing governance etc??????

Unless the change results in really significant cost savings to the ski industry (skiers) it will be a total waste of time and just add a few more hundred thousand dollars of cost to the ski industry in consulting fees for the review.

In percentage terms that is a very significant difference.

Buller website reports the Acting Chair as Jacqueline Jennings, but still shows Huber as CEO, Guess they haven't got round to updating it yet.

I would suggest the current board members left are just as bad as J Hutchison and every other board member since 2009.
None of them have been able to stop the rot when they were warned they had a crook CEO.
The board members left need to get rid of all the CEO,s mates for the sake of their own reputations.
What came out of the Ombudsmans report was the tip of the iceberg.
Every board member since 2009 should de absolutely ashamed of what they allowed to happen.
Not only will they lose their jobs so will many others at the RMB later this year.

Might happen by handing over most of the responsibility for the resorts to local elected shire governments. Hotham and Falls to Alpine Shire, Buller Mt Stirling to Mansfield. New 'RMB' provides some strategic direction for 'Alpine Resort Tourism Industry' and controls to ensure that Shires do not bleed alpine resorts as cash cows to fund non-alpine activities.
