No guarantee that the same may not have happened under private management. Difference is that management would have the authority to give staff whatever perks they saw fit.

The major difference is that it wouldn't be taxpayers money that they were rorting - rather, the private management's money.

And that if it happens it's the company's profit that suffers, not the public purse. And for that very reason, any company worth its salt will take care that it doesn't happen.

Actually in both cases the money would basically come from skiers/boarders, either through the gate or through fees paid by mountain businesses. I think the 3 big resorts are basically self-funded, at least for opex.

Yes but if they were all privately run there would be some actual competition. The resorts wouldn't make money if they couldn't get people in the gate, and to do that they would have to offer a competitive product at a competitive price.

I'm not bored. I want blood. Check this from the report.

    It was alleged that:

    1. The CEO improperly purchased airfares for his wife and child using the Resort’s credit card.
    2. The CEO improperly used his corporate credit card for personal purchases while on annual leave.
    3. The CEO improperly authorised the use of public funds to pay for a personal ski trip to France attended by the Property Manager and his family.
    4. The CEO improperly used his corporate credit card to purchase tyres for his personal car costing about $1,500.
    5. The Board Chair misused work accommodation by allowing personal friends and family to stay at the Resort in contravention of the Resort’s policy.
    6. The CEO misused work accommodation by allowing personal friends to stay there and by providing these friends with free VIP ski passes, in contravention of the Resort’s policy.
    7. The CEO improperly provided the CFO and the Property Manager a range of benefits in lieu of placing them on required Government Sector Executive Remuneration Panel (GSERP) contracts.
    8. The CEO regularly engages a business in which his wife has an interest, with no transparent procurement process

From what @Timmossy says, they're claiming innocence - presumably because they didn't feel they were paid enough? Sounds very self-entitled to me. And then blaming it all on the people who dobbed them in.

Sacked by who? The CEO is employed by the board. The board chair was complicit! So the CEO wasn't going to be sacked.

They are now finally on show cause notices, the fallout will be interesting.

Plenty of CEO in the past have been sacked for similar things. My thoughts both of them will be removed from their positions. Labour government is already in hot water with ministers travel / living allowance. Can't see how they can't not move the two on.

Agree the fall out will be interesting. Especially when there is seperate review taking place on how to best to run these resorts.

Wasn't there a similar issue at Falls about 10 years ago. Aren't people aware that there is a very good chance that they will get caught with their hand in the cookie jar or is the temptation too great?

It says in the report he was provided with a seperate company supplied vehicle! This was his own extra vehicle (maybe because the company ute wasn't up to his BMW standards?)

Yup. He was only on $200k with a company supplied vehicle. Was his accommodation on the mountains included, or was it merely subsidised? Or did he have to stay in Hicksfield (Mansfield)? Poor buggar!

Can we please substitute 'resort users and businesses' for 'taxpayers money'. The resort management boards get ALL their money from charging gate entry on users and property charges on the property owners. So we are the ones paying for this.

@Seth that was his initial response, according to a post earlier, and a common one by politicians too, who say, I took this job, earning way less than other jobs I could have taken, so its understandable that I would rort the living shit out of it.
