After a disastrous morning at Front Valley/Centre Valley, skied in blue cow in the afternoon after seeing it had opened again, mostly on excelerator. Snow quality was excellent, but visibility was incredibly poor (could only see chair in front on the way up). Windy at times, snowing on and off. No queues. After a couple of runs, the fog had lowered all the way down the bottom, so decided to head back. Terminal chair was on wind hold again, ski patrol told us to ski around side saddle to the early starter double. Was quite the experience.

I have this disturbing mental image of you pedalling along in a floral skirt with a hot water bottle wedged between your knees. :nerd:

Sounds like you didn't get there early enough. We got to BC at 12, just before Summit and Ridge opened. Nobody on Zalis or Excelerator, great visibility for about 4 amazing runs on those. Once visibility became a bit dodgy we went to Rollercoaster. Rode that twice with only 2 of us on the run. Amazing!

Windy, -4, trying to snow, chains from Prussian Creek and a bit of traffic on the road early.
Could be another special day :)

Cold, good snow, some from the sky. Surprising lack of crowds. I had a Telemark student this afternoon and we found boot deep snow from last night!

Also, what's the chances of being able to drive up to Perisher tomorrow without having to put chains on, or should I just bite the bullet and catch the train up ?

They're requiring chain fitting after a light frost at the moment. The train could be the go.

I'm up the Ceny Coast this weekend. Trying to find a wave.nothing above 1 foot. The snow (even with the wind) would be better than the surf at the moment

Not only that.....the skiing on Eyre was as good as any of the groomed runs we did on first tracks! Really easy to pick ungroomed lines from top of the double to the Eyre Cafe!!

Beautiful at Blue Cow right now. Started just after First Tracks finished; some lovely runs down Excellerator, Zalis, and Rollercoaster. It makes such a difference skiing these runs before they get completely trashed! Faster, greater confidence. Not crowded yet apart from the usual queue at Ridge. Now for Guthega:).

Thought we trashed Excelerator pretty well! It was getting slidey last couple of runs. Did they groom it after us?

Nice first tracks with robbo, smskier and dsns. So nice to be able to ski back to Perisher, all runs thin cover but holding up well. Ticked off the BC carpet on the way back :D

Nope! Still better than late morning onwards ;) Cover at Guthega is thin and personally I didn't find the runs to either side of the Calf T bar particularly pleasant: scraped surface with large icy pebbles (judder, judder ....). Hope to do first tracks in a couple of weeks ... See you all then :)

Couple of questions how many days does some one need to explore perisher and see most the mountain? And any suggestions on reasonable priced places to stay in the area for a solo dude?

Pretty keen to tick it off the todo list been to Hotham/Falls/Thredbo just never made it over to Perisher as its that little bit far from Albury to day trip.

Beautiful day, and the crowds just didn't materialise as expected. First tracks with the forum crew was good. I was about to head from blue cow over to Mt P when I got a message from DSNS and SMS that it was busier over there, so just hung around the cow. I didn't queue more than 2m for a lift all morning. Quite bizarre for a sunday to be so quiet, but not complaining. First day for me this season where the lift lines haven't sent me home very early:) Hung around till 1pm.

Considering the low base the cover is surprisingly ok away from the snow making areas, eg peasant valley, copperhead rd, pretty valley

Mt P was busy from about 9.30 to 11.30 after which the queues were fine. Any wait was worth it for some great runs out wide down to the road at the bottom of Eyre on natural snow and in Sun Valley.

Stay in Jindabyne and either drive up to Perisher or catch the ski tube up.
Perisher is a collection of 4 old resorts areas (Perisher, Smiggins, Blue Cow and Guthega). Technically it is possible to ski all resort lifts in a day when they are spinning, but realistically, it takes 2-3 days to leisurely do them all depending on your skill level.

You may want to try The Station in Jindabyne. Be aware that accommodation in Jindabyne is heavily boomed on weekends; you may have to go as far afield as Berridale (50 minutes away) or Cooma (65-70 minutes). Mid-week is a little better. AirBnB is another option .... I agree with comments above - Perisher is a very large resort and needs several days of exploration, really. We like it! Enjoy ....

I had a beautiful weekend skiing guthega, managed over 70 scans on the blue calf for friday, saturday, sunday. The groomed runs weren't great but surprisingly through the trees was amazing... also towers was really good first thing this morning.
