We'll be doing strawberries etc at Hanazono first lifts before the mongol hordes descend across the ridge from Hirafu. Then across to Mizuno-no-sawa for 9:30am opening (or Superstition if closed) and maybe poke around the Annupuri gates. Then, move back across the mountain for some left overs in Mihirashi Trees or head up the peak.

Yes, all mountain all the way.

Anyone able to give first hand update on conditions? Gate six opening this weekend but just had a fair amount of rain. How good or bad is it?

    I'm here at the moment.
Theres a fair bit of bamboo sticking out still thats the only issue really.
Gates wont be too far away, the rain yesterday didn't do any damage and the base is solid as.

Nothing to be concerned about, Been here a week, had hardly any snowfall but have still managed to get faceshots so dont stress.

Thanks for update. Yes must get face shots no matter how bad and weird I feel saying that.

It's only bad and weird when you're overheard saying it by the non skiing public. The looks...oh the looks...

First day in Niseko today. Got a little bit of everything. Quite nice for first day. Groomed runs are mostly hard surface but off the track very nice in places. Guide took us to a number of nice stashes but the run outs you could really tell the hard base. sun came out to get a nice shot of the mountain and snowing hard enough at times to provide at least something. Doing the snow dance for a big dump which will really up the quality. Seemed to be a lot of buzz about this next possible storm Thursday. And agree still bamboo sticking out but for most part covered enough that you go right through or over. I had more of a problem with the trees jumping in my way when I was not looking. They move quick.

Snow boarded Kiroro today. We are guessing between 20 to 30 cm in the first four hours. It was puking for a bit of time. Nice coverage over the hard rain base that you could feel every so often. Our guide found us knee deep and the other group ventured a little further and found waist deep. Not epic by local standards but I had a great day.

Yup. Caught up for a beer last night which was great.
Face shots and fresh until we pulled the pin at 2pm. Dumping since then too.
Cleared the rail at home at 2pm, about 20 odd cm sitting on there already

On the bus from chitose to Niseko. Last hour has been one of the most massive dumps imaginable. All credit to the bus driver. Nice welcome to Niseko.

hi all, so a while back i asked about transport and many of you suggested the train back to sapporo, well i have just got back from my trip and i did take the train. It was a nice relaxing experience, same sort of views as the bus from the airport but great views when you get to the sea and also very cheap and easy. Sapporo is nice to walk around and my hotel was close to the main station in the city.
Good news is i will be back in 6 weeks and will do the whole experience again. :) thank you to all who suggested something, happy ski/board for the rest of the season.

First morning in Niseko and flakes have been lightly falling all of breakfast. The power loss last night was a first. Only took about 15 minutes to get the power back. Apparently it was a fair chunk of Niseko that lost powder.

we lost power too. looked like it was one whole phase that went out. random houses everywhere lost it.
i assumed someone skid into a pole and took stuff out.
pretty quick to bring it back really.

Anyone skiing in the Sapporo/Otaru coastal area at the moment?
Saw nice falls reported yesterday and looks likely to be even more today? Kiroro reported 40cm at peak and 30cm at base yesterday, they may get close to 1 meter in 2 days??
Also saw report for 10-20cm at rusutsu this morning. Good times

Limited lifts by then too. Have a look at the archived reports on Snow Japan to get an idea of conditions.

We have 4 nights in Otaru from Sunday planning to hit Teine, Kiroro and Kokusai. Unfortunately missing this stuff as clear as anything in central Hokkaido at the moment!

Snowing heavily all morning here at downtown Niseko. Started to peter out after lunch. Fantastic to be back at Boyoso for lunch although I wonder what has happened to that old guy who took the money. He was the first Japanese guy that scaled Everest. Spent most of the day at Hanazono but what was surprising was the odd bit of ice and Australian type sludge in parts.

Lots of blue sky today in Niseko. Expecting the snow conditions to be varied. Hoping there's plenty of snow on the way early next week.

It's been a strange season in terms of snowfall for Niseko :emoji_confused:
Here's to hoping the streams and stumps are all covered up by mid-late Jan ;)

Last time I was here (2015), my favourite beer was Yebisu. I tried the new gold can and something has changed and it didnt seem as good. My top at the moment is Umami Malt.

Not many aussies about here anymore, Mainly season workers it seems. Chinese everywhere, fair few europeans too.

We did Iwanupuri today. Good hike, great snow out there still too.

Just got back from Kutchan. I need new ski boots so I had a bit of a look. There were some great brands like Lange for about $500 AUD. And they do the whole heat molded thing as a service. I'm guessing that it would actually be cheaper getting them here than in Oz.

There is a beer there with a frog on it and no other English text.. If you see it definitely try it! I found it rare to find it but the lawsons in Niseko did have it once i think.

    My go-to was Sapporo classic
