Cut n cover. Easy $300k. Half of that would be road management and site costs

Past bus stop eight but before the RMB workshop.

I believe that it was named when a Jeep Cherokee went off the road. No idea if that's true or not.

Does it.....most probably. Should it....most probably not. Remember, this is a small culvert under a 2 lane road.

If you reckon you could do it cheaper start a construction firm and begin bidding.

Half the cost will be in impact studies, engineering reports, soil analysis studies and other useless bureaucratic admin so that all the boxes can be ticked to satisfy other bureaucratic administrators.

You would build a tunnel under a road (on top of a mountain) without engineering reports, soil analysis, impact studies?
    That would be called
    .... Negligence

Typically on a major project that will be 4-6% of final project cost.
On a little job maybe 10-20%.
Smaller jobs have the greater risk of error, % wise.

    ...geez guys!

...think we're in danger making a 'mountain out of a Pygmy possum' here.

More seriously, through our own actions ie: ski-field development, roads, introducing feral predetors and ( if you believe?) climate change and bushfire frequency. We spend hundreds of millions on the ski industry in Aussie each year and you say we can't spend a measly $300k to help a critically endangered critter breed.

...not exactly what you call sustainable development eh?

(To the newbies, I am a frequent reasonably frequent visitor to Hotham, winter and summer).

I've also held a MPP - one of the nicest little fellas - would even be nice as a pet if the Parkos allowed!!

...meant to say in my main para above - we spend millions which harm the possums and then balk at a tiny fraction to give them a better chance to breed.

    ...make you own mind up!

Not speaking for others but I was making no judgement on the value of spend to save a critically endangered species, any money spent to save these little guys is great. My comment was more about what appears to be a high general cost for any public works....whether it be school buildings, footpaths or playgrounds.
