I mostly just used a very basic panasonic full HD video cam from a few years ago and a Canon 7D occasionally. The video cam sucks as it often spits the dummy when it's snowing/too cold so I miss some good footage. The 7D is soooooooooo much better but the lack of autofocus for a video amateur like me is a bit of a pitfall with that.

Oops! I could say that you blended into all the other guests. Dude it is a really nice video as usual i have some ideas for next year though for a big project.

Blended in? Thanks nick. [IMG] I'm not sure whether I will make a video next season. That took soooooooooooo long to make!!!! Plus I'm always sacrificing potentially epic footage for my photos these days and I'm not really interested in making a movie with mediocre footage. Would also be nice not to have to be the one filming/shooting all the time. Sucks having to stop your runs half way down. Buy a video camera!!!

Mark's work makes me want to go to Japan. If I was organising another ski trip, I'd probably put Japan to the top of the list of places to go. Something exotic and good snow.

It was a great movie! BC footage was epic!

12 minutes is hard to keep peoples attention (unless they were there), you did it good!

I always use a rule of thumb that if you stick with a scene too much longer than 10 seconds it has to be top shelf, you pretty much did that.

Are you using Mac or PC? A Mac should take less time to make if you use iMovie (nothing you did there could not be done in iMovie).

It sure does make it easier if everyone in the group has a vid cam, you miss bugger all skiing as you dont have to wait, the person in front shoots the person behind and vice versa.

I wouldn't worry too much about HD etc, as long as the footage is acceptable for Vimeo (not that HD) you've done the job. A P&S with a reasonable vid mode is good enough.

Yeah mate, I hate 12 minute videos usually... Haha. I made that for myself and my mates but it took so long that I didn't have time to make a shorter edit for the masses. Glad it's not too painful! Maybe another day I'll make a 'best of' vid.

I have a Mac but new to it so just used premiere elements as I know how to use it (at a basic level). I did look at iMovie briefly though and it looked good. Used it for the for intro in the end and realized it was a pretty handy program (don't need anything too techie).

See what happens next year.... Currently backpacking in Africa and pretty broke after 11 months of travel so might not even get a chance to go. Yeah yeah i hear ya, cry me a river... [IMG]

We'll see mate. Need at least 1 more video cam.

You should see what I have done in africa since arriving.... Not being very careful! [IMG] Let's just say booking the cheapest hostel on one of the worst streets in one of the most dangerous cities in Africa was not one of my better moves. At least they gave me a private escort whenever i left the hostel soi I didn't get robbed. I was the only one staying there and they wanted me to come back in a few weeks... Haha.

Really enjoyed your vid Mark.Think you managed to convey a real sense of place and narrative eg, creek crossing, fire shot and Lachie's faceplant.

Nice work Mark - great lines, great skiing and nice to see some relief from endless POV cam footage (I am guilty as charged in that regard)

I am an iMovie convert and am still finding 'surprise and delight' features in it - like you said though - all movie editing takes so much time you sometimes wonder why you started

Loved it Mark, especially the end bit on the roadside

Don't think I'll worry about going to see Warren Miller's new film now

Mark you should enter it into the upcoming Vimeo Film Festival - I think there's a trip to NYC in the offing.

I'll never look at the roadside avi barriers in the same way again either.

Mark, that was simply awesome. I've never been to Japan but it's now even higher on my must do list, if that's possible. Rivals anything pushed out by the commercial film houses, that's for sure.
