As is the fashion for my overseas TRs I'm now excited! Can't wait for Intertele.
Interski, Intertele.....just sounds like you're working up to the holy grail - Interboggan!
I think @Vermillion and @veruca are our reps at Interboggan.
Doesn't Astro go to InterSnowBlade first?
I had a few hours to kill waiting for @skifree to get to the airport in Milan so I went into the city. I love the incongruous nature of Italy. It takes an hour and a half to buy a prepaid SIM. But an espresso and a take away roll are served up lightning fast. You can take the roll away, but you must drink your coffee at the bar. Make a perfect roll with prosciutto, spinach and melted mozzarella and wrap it up in a serviette so it sticks to the cheese. Italy is gold.
No takeaway for you
Cool covered streets
The ever present flying rat
Connect the Airport terminal and railway station with an art gallery, so Italian.
Was walking past a restaurant today in Venice and the waiter was yelling at people to stop feeding the Pidgeons as they are sick..dying,..very bad!
First day at Cervinia today. Typical spring conditions, very firm to start and softening a bit throughout the day on the middle slopes, not at all up high and a bit of slush on the lower slopes.
Cervinia sits in a big Cirque on the southern side of Il Cervinio (The Matterhorn) and you have a choice of a bunch of moderate pistes and slopes, or serious mountaineering. Certainly not a place for easy touring.
I've forgotten about the scale of Europe. We did one lap today of two lifts and it took 80 minutes. One gondola surprisingly was lacking in la dolce vita. It didn't have any kind of seats, just carpet over a tube.
It was a good day of ripping around groomers with more to follow tomorrow.
Morning view of Il Cervinio
The main street of Cervinia
Il Cervinio with a precarious Zermatt lift top station
@skifree on the not dolce vita gondola seat
The view into Zermatt
The Matterhorn yet again
The phoquers have a big race start
We're off to Zermatt tomorrow
Yeah italy can be kinda basic eh
Surprised that've got the sprinklers on
More the contrast to the luxurious chairs with comfy seats, covers and optional footrests
It surprised me too. They seem to value top to bottom skiing as much as Thredbo.
Today @skifree and I skied over to Zermatt. We saw more Italian oddities, marvelled at the differences between Switzerland and Italy and enjoyed the wintery hero snow at Zermatt. I even got to indulge in some infinity cheese!
In Italy short skis suck and long skis truck!
An unexpected view of the Matterhorn
Intermediate heaven on Furggsattel
The world famous endless t-bars.
Thinking of @Normo we made sure our first Swiss lift was a magic carpet.
I got to eat infinity cheese
The snow was great to ski on
The beginnings of the weather due to come in on Monday
We should get a morning tomorrow before the weather turns to poo.
The money flows over but slowly
Hard not to take a pic of it eh
I loved Zermatt/Cervinia. Thanks for sharing!
(Especially the carpet shot!)
Wow. Looks like lots of snow forecast.
It will be interesting, there's nowhere to hide from the weather.
Ze Hörnli area is kinda sheltered buuuutttt... getting across kinda aint
Maybe just drink some vino and eat pizza
Today was much more leisurely, mainly to preserve the legs for next week so @skifree and I went for a walk up the sunny side of the valley and saw a farmers barn for when the cows come up the valley, some flowers and some Marmots. My skiing is starting to come together after so many months off snow (not including the new years day incident) and it was hilarious watching the Euros strip off to get some sun on the deck where we had lunch today.
Cool patterns in a ice puddle
Spring is springing
The White ribbon of death
The turns are starting to feel good again
Probably a day off tomorrow, depends on what the weather does and how my legs go.
Sore legs and miserable weather made today a rest day, or should I say an eating and drinking day. It was a winner for me because I had unpasteurized duck foie gras for the first time and an Italian driver stopped and waved for me to cross the road! Just starting to snow in Cervinia now and according to the forecast it should be a day full of freshies tomorrow!
Ahhh, love Zermatt, try Sunnega area in poor weather
Well it snowed last night and even cleared up for a little bit today. There was about 40cm of new snow at Mid Mountain and it took untill 9:30 for about 1/3 of the mountain to open. Today @skifree and I skied with the Canadians, an Italian, a Frenchman and the first of the Americans. There were some good pitches of fresh snow near the pistes, but since it warmed up quickly most fresh areas required straight lining. Intertele starts tonight and it was great to ski with such an international possee.
It cleared for a bit
There were a few nice pitches
An Australian, an Italian, a Frenchman, a Canadian and an American ski down a hill...
The last of the turns before the sun turned the snow to cement.
An early finish today to finish preparing for my indoor presentation and outdoor on show workshop tomorrow. Hopefully I can create some controversy like in Argentina!
Small mountain, shit snow, crap food, bindings broken, 2/10 would not ski *
Don't you mean 2/7?
That guy in the red and white jacket with the mushroom on his head needs to get his hands just a little higher for the classic "Hallelujah" tele pose.
Today the Telemark Instruction nerd out started with on-show clinics during the day and indoor presentations tonight. I presented on the Australian Telemark Progression and this afternoon I went to an Italian clinic on using ankle flexion and variations in the Telemark lead change. I presented on skiing in Australia to answer all of the inevitable questions you receive as an Australian skier overseas.
There was more snow and I managed a few good turns in between the clinics. More of the same tomorrow before things get interesting with the telemarkissimo race on Saturday.
Telemark fencing in my clinic
Intro to bumps using the side of the groomer
The snow was nice up high, but very Australian down low
