What do you mean by ranking?
How you'd rate the resort? How difficult you'd rank it? Best to least fave location?

Not sure why age and not years skiing... not sure you'd need to share either, but days on snow don't always have a strong correlation to years on earth.

A bit hard doing a best to worst list after 45+ years and 30+ resorts.

I totally Missed the ranking bit.

I thought the age and ability was due to the getting around part. That those who are only new to the sport shouldn't feel bad when making comparisons.

But your right - years skiing is more important than age.

And looking back, some of the best days ever have been in smaller less grandiose resorts.

Don't see how that is relevant. Ranking is just impossible. Judging on conditions you might strike on a particular single day is largely meaningless and taking respective judgements on days decades apart under different circumstances far too hard.

Did this trip include strapping on an item (or items) made up of laminated strips of hardwoods like beech, birch, aspen, paulownia, fuma, ash, fir, maple, spruce, poplar, or bamboo onto your feet ? Possibly also including carbon, kevlar, aluminium honeycomb, fibreglass, titanium, air or foam as well? Did this trip include pointing said items downhill and letting gravity take its course ?

If so, then yes ! If not, well, I hear Canada is lovely this time of the year :p

Whistler has a crap ton of snow still. April so far has produced the goods, most BC resorts - open or not - have had 60-100 cm of new snow this month. SP just closed with base >300 cm. The weather, well, it's not called Pissler for nothing. Rain, snow, sleet, ice pellets, sun, cloud, wind, we had it all in the five days I was there. Good dry snow up top, sugary slop by mid station and no fkn way was I skiing lower than that.

Did a couple of week long trips to NSW in the mid 80's. Perisher/Guthega were ok. Headed up to Thredbo one day but looked up and it was all green and nothing running so went back down. In the following years the NZ heli bug had well and truly taken over and still continues so have never been back to NSW fields.

@Telemark Phat an odd one out on your North American list...how was Mt Bohemia!?

Also, what are your thoughts on Mt Cheeseman in NZ. It's a serious contender for an NZ trip, I think my partner would love the club field vibe, but not the tows...she can handle the Mt Perisher t-bars though so I thought Cheeseman could work.

I found Cheeseman to be a forgettable little hill, although admittedly I skied it in bad snow. If I lived in Christchurch and I wanted fresh turns all day on a powder day, I reckon I'd def go there. (Road is scary tho, even by NZ standards!) But it's definitely the 4th best hill on this range after Porters, BR and Craigieburn (in no particular order). T-Bars fine there BTW, if a little steep on one or two pitches.

Bohemia is short steep and deep, no facilites and is all about the skiing. I had a blast, well worth the time to get there if you're into the road trip thing.

Cheesman is pretty small, most people would be bored after a couple of days, but it is accessable and despite the luxuries keeps a decent amount of the clubbie vibe. You could mix it up with Porters to make the trip more worthwhile.
