Paedde would win if he could be bothered writing down his 110+ resorts. Heinz could possibly give him a run for his money though.

Meh, just another mid sized commercial field which you have to share with half the population of the North Island and is exposed to winds and rain making it notoriously icy.

I love Ruapehu. One of the most interesting ski areas of the lot.
Its always been kind to me. Damn it snows up there. It will be low tide in Otago and they will have 3 metres plus base with sun.

a question could be asked of the people with large lists, are you "tickers"? ie just skiing different resorts for the sake of adding to the list?

if you found a resort that you loved, would you ski it again or go to another resort for the sake of seing something new?

    Bit of a mixture.

Always interested in trying new places that you might hear about. Different, unique experiences, cultures etc.

Great also to revisit places you enjoyed before, perhaps until they get too popular, when you look for something else.

Also some places may have been great, but not always convenient or economic to get to, so end up being one offs. Or sometimes you just wanted to see a well known place to judge for yourself.

Then there are just your regular places that have become a sort of home away from home where you just keep going back.

I'd go back to some of the resorts I've visited. In fact, I'm currently working at PCMR (and organising it for next year) and hopefully thredbo too... I'd definately revisit Alyeska and fernie and several of the european resorts.

Bit of both. I think as I get older & crankier I will probably rotate years between old favourites and new places. I would imagine that Snowbird & Jackson Hole will be my regulars when I can't be stuffed figuring out new areas.

I'm no way a ticker at all. If we (GF and Me ) find a run or a hil we like we will lap it all day.
    Eg Moiwa .

I would say no to being a ticker. I only have a limited time to ski so I mostly only go to the places I really want to ski. I definitely go back to places I like as well (been to Hakuba for the last 3 years). That being said I am not against trying different resorts to mix it up.

If I found a secret resort which has absolutely everything I want from a ski resort I'd happily ski there every year and leave my list at 42 (or whatever it is).

:waits eagerly for Heinz' huge list:

Mine wouldn't be just ticking, otherwise I would have tried a few other smaller(or larger) places near where I've been just to tick them off.

I like exploring, but when you find a few "secret" places that combine snow quality, good terrain, plus lack of people, then I'll go back again, and again.

What I find really disturbing is the number of people who have only skied in one Australian state. [IMG]

There are three states with ski lifts and you won't catch a horrid disease if ski in another state you know! [IMG]

Definitely not a ticker - go to thredbo a couple of times each year and after going to Zermatt 4 years ago with piggy I took +1 there last year as I knew she would luv it, and I also really wanted to go back and ski into Cervinia, which we did. I think I will go back again one day.

Here's my little list, like socold, I really need to get around more too!

    Australia;

    Perisher Blue
    Thredbo

    NZ;

    Mt Hutt
    Cadrona
    Treble Cone

    US;

    Aspen
Aspen Highlands (little bit of a cheat, I need it!)
    Vail

    Europe;

Chamonix - Le Tour, Brevent, Flegere
    Zermatt
    Cervinia
    Ischgl

Victoria: All resorts, lots of backcountry
NSW: Thredbo, Perisher, a bit of backcountry
Tasmania: Ben Lomond, Mt Mawson, a bit of backcountry
New Zealand: a couple of resorts and club fields, no backcountry

    Foreign climes: Nil.

Additional. I skied on our front lawn when it snowed in Castlemaine when I was a child. [IMG] Does that count?

Oh and I drove past Mt Thebarton, but didn't go inside. I've been kicking myself for 13 years over that, Now I will never be able to say that I've skied in four Australian states. [IMG]

P.S. I don't thin Kieran can claim Ginini and Franklin as different club fields. While I'm impressed that he got to ride the lifts when they existed, the two hills are on the same undulating range and very close together. So I reckon they should be considered as part of the same club field.

Completely different clubs and 5km apart! Hmph!

And I can't claim to have skied them when they had tows - I'm nowhere near old and crusty enough. I've only skied them in the past decade or so, yo-yoing the old runs - but they used to be legit ski fields, so damnit, I'm making up the rules as I go along and claiming them. Corin I managed to ski before they shut the tow down.

Ok, taken a while but have gone through them. I used to try and tally these but after a while it gets very difficult to make a clear distinction between ski area, resort, region covering several areas on one ticket, previously disconnected areas being connected to another area and thats before you get into heli-ski areas where you can ski variious ranges from the one base, and then ski touring.

Anyway this is what I have come up with.

    AUSTRALIA
Falls Creek, Mt. Hotham, Mt. Buller, Perisher, Guthega

    NEW ZEALAND
Whakapapa, Mt. Hutt, Porters Heights, Mt. Dobson, Tekapo, Ohau, Treble Cone,
    Cardrona, Coronet Peak
Heli etc: Tasman glacier, Ben Ohaus, Gammacks, Harris, Buchanans,
Tyndall glacier, Minarets, McKerrows, Branches, Remarkables, Eyre

    AUSTRIA
Tauplitzalm, Schladming (Planai, Hochwurzen, Reiteralm, Hauser Kaibling),
Dachstein glacier, Loser, Hintersee, Untersberg, Maria Alm, Axamer Lizum,
St. Anton, Ischgl, Kitzbühel, Sölden, Obergurgl-Hochgurgl, Silvretta Nova
Touring: Silvretta region (inc. Piz Buin)

    SWITZERLAND
Samnaun, Laax/Flims, Davos(Parsenn), Andermatt, Engelberg, Zermatt, Verbier,
    Porties du Soliel(Champery)
Touring: Chamonix-Zermatt Haute Route, Berner Oberland (Jungfraujoch-Fafleralp)

    GERMANY
    Reit in Winkel

    FRANCE
Chamonix(Grand Montets, La Flegere, Le Tour, Valle Blanc, Les Planards),
Porties du Soliel(Morzine, Avoriaz, Chatel), Flaine, Courchevel, La Plagne,
Les Arcs, Tignes, Val Thorens, Valmorel

    ITALY
Cortina (Faloria, Tofana, Lagazoi, Cinque Torri), Sestriere

    NORWAY
    Geilo

    CANADA
Banff(Sunshine, Norquay, Lake Louise), Calgary Olympic park, Fortress Mt,
    Whistler, Blackcomb
    Heli: Cariboos, Monashees

    USA
Aspen (Aspen Mt, Highland, Snowmass), Vail, Beaver Creek, Arapahoe basin,
Breckenridge, Copper Mt, Crested Butte, Alta, Snowbird, Jackson Hole, Grand Targhee,
    Alyeska
    Heli/Snowcat: Vail pass, Girdwood(Chucagh), Valdez(Chugach)

    ARGENTINA
    Bariloche(Gran Catedral), Las Lenas

    CHILE
    Valle Nevado

    JAPAN
Naeba, Tashiro, Shiga Kogen, Oku Shiga Kogen, Yokoteyama,
Niseko (Hirafu, Higashiyama, Annupuri, Hanazono), Rusutsu, Tomamu,
    Furano, Kamui, Asahidake, Tokachidake
+ a few more to come in Feb

    INDIA
    Manali(Solang), Auli, Gulmarg
Heli: Manali(Brigu, Chakki Nalla, Jagatsukh, Jobri Nalla, Lambada, Sethandome)

    RUSSIA (Kamchatka)
    Krasnaya Sopka
Heli:Aag, Avachinsky, Koryaksky, Mutnosvsky, Veluchinsky, Zhupanovsky

I think that just about covers it.

Its not the size of your list, but what you do with it....

    Mines tiny...

Cant believe that someone with Heinz list hasnt skied Thredbo [IMG]

Oh yeah, Keiran, I worked at Corin, I think about 1984 or 5, it was the second year of its life. They had great plans, they wanted to do it at Ginini, but the Gov wouldnt help out with the road. Saw the tows at Ginini and Franklin when I was a kid, but only started skiing them in 76 xc.

true, but for me skiing oz is an almost every weekend affair so that i don't need to take hols, and i also try to keep it cheap by driving there, staying in my van and getting a season pass.

that way i can save my hols for northern hemisphere.

Did go up to Thredbo once in the 80's but it was threadbare at the time so didn't bother skiing.

In a month I'll be adding about 6-7 new resorts (Utah) to the list, but I'm not a ticker. I have about 5 more places I want to check out (Jackson Hole in the US and the rest are in Europe), but when I've done that I will be happy to just repeat and repeat. A lot of these places I've been multiple times, and some (Vail/Beaver) I've been many times and will go back to again and again.

Probably the only places on my list I'd be happy to never go back to would be Breckenridge, Keystone and A-Basin, and all the Canadian resorts.
