Wow is that a big rain squall that blew in on the cruiser cam?
Certainly looks liquid on the merrits live cam.
No way it's raining up at Merritt's but there's also no sign of snow down here in the village. I observe that the Bureau's forecast of snow above 1200m for NSW was about 300m wrong. It'll probably snow that low later but it's 3pm already so their Friday snow level forecast is an official dud, as I find it often is.
Solid showers in western melb now, noticeable temperature drop/ wind increase
Complete white out in Falls Creek. Can't see a metre in front of you. Lots of big flakes being blown in though, couple of centimetres.
Coldies coming across the bay in Melbourne now...
Incoming over the Brindabellas
Showers rolling through Prahran now.
Love the Arboretum.
If that was a higher-resolution shot you'd see me looking back at you, your camera's pointing right at my house.
Looks like r@!n on the Merritts cam atm.
Yes it does. Its looks bloody windy and wet.Visibility down.
Thredbo AWS -1.2 so maybe snow melting on the glass, Perisher
below zero also
Definitely misty rain at that rime at Merrits
Was certainly snow to low first thing, then zip, then a rainyfoggymistyyeuccchhh
Fingers crossed for tonight
Ok I stand corrected. And I repeat my above comments about the BoM's shocking snow level predictions this year
The Ben seems to be getting smashed in these coldies.
Icy rain after lunch at Buller but snow held up fine for the most part. Vis was horrible but you can't win them all. Kids had a blast anyway.
Rain stopped and temp was showing zero on the car as we left the car park 30 mins ago. Sunny back down in Sawmill.
Off to Falls tomorrow so onwards and upwards
I observe that the bureau 430pm update now says just 50% chance of precipitation for nsw mtns fri nite and that since bugger all snow has accumulated today, this front has a 95% chance of being a TOTAL FIZZER
Never much in this front to begin with. Downgraded a few days ago.
Lake Mt and Baw Baw .....look wet.
Teckel must be having a breakdown......July 14 and no skiable snow at Lake Mt.
Even if it snows overnight there is no base at all!
Perhaps Mr T needs to pack gum boots and take an umbrella up to MUMC Hut...!!
I know but l thought it was downgraded from 20-30ish to 5-10ish. Be luck to get 2-5cm settled now above 1600
Downgraded again yesterday I reckon from memory. Always fading out. No rain damage is a win of itself given it looked like 35mm of rain early in the week. All about Monday-Wednesday.
Looks to be coming down steadily on merrits cam. Will still be more than 10cm above 1700m IMO. A that is what counts . There is snow making for everything below 1700m at Thredbo.
Cedarwood Tables saying wet crud.....stuff all additional anything except for moisture!
Having a look at the sat pic the cold stuff is about to reach VIC resorts. No solid frontal cloud but plenty of speckle for a night of intermittent snow.
Sorry us cats are going indoors ....watching these cams in hope of snowfall has done our heads in!
Unexpected rain band from the nor west on the radar heading to Sydney....and that speckled cloud in the bight looks good I like that stuff
Looking across towards Perisher there seems to be some foggy cloud. That said, it's relatively mild here at 8 degrees and we are simply not getting the strong winds (locally) normally associated with winter fronts. In fact, it's quite still here which is unusual. That said the peaks in NSW copped it today.
Looking across to Perisher below.
Looking down the Moonbah Valley to Vic below. When it's snowing heavy this area is normally blanketed in low cloud and snow sweeping up the valley. Hopefully in the coming days?
Pretty dark rain cell over the Bay. (Port phillip)
Steady light rain as I just drove up the Alpine Way and in Thredbo. +2c in the village.
Still Friday till 12pm..
Merrits cam going off unless there is snow gun near the camera
Three periods of high wind today at Perisher up around 100-110kph. It was snowing lightly most of the time but with that wind it must have been drifting into all those lee slopes and snowfences. We have missed the wind in previous storms, good to finally get a good conventional storm with heaps of wind.
Teeny weeny Straw just starting at South Cam. From rain to the slightest of sludge flakes at Merrits in the last minute. Car'n!
Front Valley cam.....
Just arrived at Baw Baw this afternoon, just had about 1cm in the past hour. Everything looking nice and white!
Big winds, some snow and warmer temps were not a good result for the day at Perisher. We need a freeze and at least 20cm to get things up and running to the next level. Groomed runs in snow making areas are good but outside of that a lot of 'natural objects'. A good base is there so hopefully the next few days will improve conditions dramatically.
Welcome Fergie, and live reports are most welcome.
I just observed a fox on the live Merrits cam. Cruising for food in front of the cafe. Cunning.
I reckon Tumba is right in that gap prior to cold air arrival ............not a cloud in the night sky , stars everywhere.
Not much in the way of precip today , 2.4mm , a little bit of wind earlier and temps at a steady 2c right now.
Little buggar is there every.single.night.
OK morning at Hotham. Very windy up top but perfectly ok in the valley. The cloud came in lower and lower until around lunchtime when some decent flurries started. Afternoon was horrible; warm, misty pizzle, very wet and low vis. Clear now.
Smart little fella!
Edit, some issues uploading photos
Basically snowing rather heavily small flakes at hotham
Just like the Pigmy Possums climbing into the food waste bins up at Eagles Nest.
Not much weather going on here at Thredbo atm.
Temperature plummeting here at Thredbo top station -3.7c. But not much weather going on
A light dusting of snow on the ground at Woodridge in Thredbo this morning. The rain yesterday at lower elevations appears to have mildly affected the natural cover under the Gunbarrel chair. Heavy cloud but the top of Antons is visible.
Perisher reporting 2cm in the past 24 hours.
We had some nice showers last evening in Queanbeyan which I thought was a good sign for getting at least 5cm out of this (as often it can snow with no precipitation reaching us).
