Mammoth Mountain is still open for skiing.
The final day of their 16/17 season will be next Sunday August 6 - 270 days after season start.
They open for the 17/18 season in 100 days.
Their "off-season" is almost as long as our regular season....

Well, I went there the year they didn't get any snow until Jan 20th. So it comes and goes. At least weed is legal there now.

I lived there for a couple of seasons. The first season there was 25 day dry period. From the week before Xmas to middle of Jan.

Was still a 300" season but you know. Lot of sunshine. Lots of Wind. Lots of wind buff.

When the snow does turn up it tends to arrive on a gale and by the foot

Outside of Bishop the "urban areas" east of the Sierra can be more than a little bizarre. Had a night in Lone Pine. Cool spot, but seriously weird place. Good climbing shop on the main street though. That was spring 2015, slopes of Witney were bone dry, apparently even above 3000 m the skiing was marginal.
