Well we didn't get much but the skiing is v nice.
Summit and road runner on standby. It's windy up top. Fog has come in. Just hoping that something starts falling out of the sky. Skiing is nice on lee sides.
Snow started falling as I hit post. Hope it keeps up for the rest of the day.
So quiet out there this arvo.
But even if there were people, i couldnt see em....
A few action shots of mr 10 and mr 13 over at the cornice this morning
Maybe one more
Skied from 730 heavenly to 500pm big d with bwtween 1 and 6 kids. Again cornice black snake were very nice early....anything ungroomed was a pretty funky mix but we gave canyon and purgatory a go
Surprisingly less busy than anticipated. I guess school hols are over and kids sport back on
I think that might be you @stansi in the background of this pic. Then another telewhacker beyond
Gotcha ridge this afternoon. Initiation was delicious lots of blower. Hopefully not so chaotic on the hill now school hols are over.
Snow up there is very nice right now. Some parts of heavenly are In need of some more but still skiing well. Getting out early was great, otherwise somewhat questionable once it got chopped up. Didn't get a chance to head over right, but extreme area looked well covered from lifts. Orchard is a while off.
Yeah early openers on heavenly always a winner. 2nd breakfast /early lunch at 10.30-11. 30 Back out over others' lunch.
Have u guys ever tried the free lift sessions from 3pm-5pm that Hotham provides, for the day immediately before the day that you purchase your lift passes?
I am wondering how strict they are on the timing, does it start at 3pm on the dot?!
Did it last year, you pass won't work at the lift gates until exactly 3pm. Still a nice system to get a few practice runs in though, make the most of it!
Thanks guys much appreciated!!
Looking forward to heading up on Thursday. I'll provide amateurish updates on how the conditions are
If anyone wants to shred / can please give me a lift from hotham village to DP this arvo pm me
So do we have a ski season yet?
If by 'season' you are waiting for blue ribbon, orchard and gotcha to open, no we dont have one as they are basically 1m mark openings.
If you want to go skiing, and arent too fussy theres half a mountain open up there with not many people around. I had fun up there with my kids.
I try not to be too fussy about snow in the driest, warmest, flattest inhabited continent on earth.
WHAT an afternoon. freshies all day, no one around. lap after lap in the "extreme" zone. snow quality was quite nice up higher. later arvo was properly good. cant wait for tomorrow!
very, very LIKE
Wow, looks like ill have to bring the powder board along
I think that's a 'yes' to my earlier question.
It was a powder snow white out at Fed. hut on Mt. FT yesterday , 18/7/17. A trip report in the BC forum is coming soon.I cracked out the snow shoes for the first time for 2017.It was hammering down. My tent was buried !!
Carve shred GS turned and sent it for the first time on dinner plain lift tonight. Getting dat hero pass value
Had a quick warm up run in the afternoon. Only stayed near Heavenly. Good snow in some areas, but there was some slippery ice towards the bottom of the lifts.
Got two full days ahead, will post more updates. Hope the conditions are good tomorrow!
Bluebird at Hotham today. Firm packed and sliding nicely. A little crusty off piste but skiable. Some wind blown drifts available. Extreme area skiing ok. Some obstacles at the bottom but return trail in reasonable nick. Not too much in the way of crowds. Some grooming has been done at the orchard, but not open yet.
"Not too bad", "OK", "some obstacles", areas "not open yet"... let's hope this isn't where we are headed with Australian snow reports.
Of course it is.
Always has been hasnt it?
10 years ago we would have only started skiing this week
Little wonder australia leads the world in snowmaking tech
You just perfectly described "Excellent" conditions at Buller.
Beautiful day at Hotham, nice snow in the morning which is probably taking a battering by the sun. Hope it doesn't get too slushy in the arvo
You need to add mist, mizzle and low cloud and poor vis for the perfect day.......
The day rounded off very nicely. I felt that the snow conditions were great throughout, all the way through to the last lift. That said, I am not particularly fussy or well versed in what would be considered good snow.
If tomorrow is more of the same, then this trip will be well worth it!!!!
nice day at Hotham today.
windblown in sections but overall pretty good.
Starting to get tracked out over the other side.
I found a roxy ski jacket with a girls hero pass "cleo gray". I will return to hotham ticket office today
Nice photo cookieman .
In 1987 it would have been "Fantastic skiing across the whole mountain"
