Under 3 months to go till it all kicks off again at Soelden again on 22 October.
Haven't paid much attention - what's the injury status on Fenninger and Svindal? Is Maze racing?
I'm sure I read an article this week that said Svindal expected to be on snow by September.
Fenninger got married, now Veith
I think I saw a pic on her Facebook of her and Maze hanging out somewhere
another wounded warrior, Julia Mancuso also got married
she's skiing in NZ
Is Maze coming back this year?
Says she has lost the drive to continue and has no intention of returning to World Cup.
Sad for us, good for her.
A few coaching changes www.skiracing.com/stories/former-swiss-world-cup-coach-returns-to-the-us and Svindal comeback .
Perfection - Jansrud
Svindal still recovering from his knee injury. Still uncertain about his chances of returning.
Looks like Matthias will ease on up to it with a forerunner stint at the Soelden SL.
Russia... Gonna go off.
Anna will be back but is keeping options open for Sölden.
auch mit Weltcup-Kalender
Nothing to do with the World cup, but as a warm up Marcel Hirscher is planning on competing in wildwater kayak for the Dolomitenmann multi sports team event next weekend in Lienz, Austria.
Event comprises of:
- 11.5 km, 2000 vertical meter uphill mountain run
- 2 Paragliding legs
- 20km uphill & 14km downhill mountain bike
- wild water kayak
Bode Miller looking unlikely to return. Has a fourth child on the way so World cup is no longer a priority.
And apparently still no decision yet from Tina Maze.
I'm looking at him winning outright. I reckon the break and the focused rehab will bring him back stronger. It will be the psychological part which could hinder him. Be interesting what he posts from Chile.
Jetzt gehts los.
Hannes Reichelt's ski season & career in the balance after a piece of disc from his spine canal was removed in an operation yesterday. He had a similar one previously after winning the 2014 Kitzbühel downhill (which was documented in the film Streif).
Hannes now somewhat more optimistic about a return some time this season after his operation. Now a matter a time. He won't be able to start training though for another 4 weeks.
Svindal has an impressive record for winning races after return from injury. He crashed badly at Beaver Creek in 2007 and missed the remainder of the season, then came back the following season to win both races on the same track. A ruptured Achilles tendon caused him to miss almost all of the 2014-15 season but he opened the 2015-16 season on a tear, winning 7 races at the first 5 speed events. I'd say he's better than most at both physical and psychological recovery.
3 weeks til Solden, any news of Bode will be racing and if so on what skis, considering the court case with Head?
No new news atm. Could drag on for while.Hopefully he will stick to his guns.
Don't know... from what I read Bode requested any early release to spend more time with his family, Head agreed to suspend (not end) the contract, but said if he was to race before the contract was due to end then it was to be on Head equipment. Bode has now setup a new ski company and wants to race on those to get publicity and thus wants out of the contract. To my mind he signed a contract and is being kept to it by the other party. Bode is pretty much behaving like he always has, only this time someone has called him on it.
Tina Maze is intending to make this season her farewell tour. She will ski selected World cup races starting with the opening GS in Sölden later this month and finishing with her home GS in Maribor in January. Then finally will go to the World championships in St Moritz in February where she is the defending title holder in the downhill.
Svindal in Chile - Val N.
World cup start in Sölden now just a week away.
Lindsay Vonn won't be there though as she intends concentrating on speeds events and is touring the US promoting her book.
Anna Veith (nee Fenniger - haven't got used to Veith yet) is still uncertain about a start next week. She will only decide shortly before. So far has been mostly training in GS. She still feels a long way off from starting in any speed events.
Matthais Mayer won't be there either. Still has some pain from a bruised foot. Is planning to return in November.
FIS are considering staging some 2 stage downhills for the men. I recall they ran one such event last season for the women. It is to apparently make it more exciting for the younger audience. I don't see it and from a poll that was run nor do the vast majority (only 30% thought it was a good idea). Only Kitzbuhel and Wengen would be exempt.
jeez, i'll wet myself
Anna says she needs more time, so won't be starting in Sölden.
pathetic at my age but I'm a big fan
sad about Tina, but at least we get another year
not sure how much we'll get to see of Lindsay [ignoring obvious sniggering opportunity]
and there's a lot of other talent in the ladies' competition
I'll be interested to see how Mikaela Shifrin goes in GS this year
I just signed up to help with timing at LL for a week, will be doing intervals or finish line. I'm gonna need a really frickin big coat, and boot warmers, and hand warmers, and a balaclava, and a hip flask, and flask for the other hip...
Sure beats carting everyones jackets down from the starting gate. But then again nothing beat the testosterone fuel at the top of the course.
Lara will be in Sölden on Saturday. http://sport.orf.at/stories/2261841/2261840/
Sölden programme https://www.soelden.com/soelden-skiweltcup-opening
hope a few others show up
Anna is delaying her season start until at least December to concentrate on a block of strength training. Focus this season will be more on the World championships in St Moritz in February rather than World cup.
and Tina only plans to race one more - at home in Maribor in January. Seems to suggest she won't be competing in St Moritz as previously suggested.
First race of season now underway. Women's GS from Sölden.
Lara with a big lead after the first run.
Mikaela doing well
great to see season underway
that was great, especially the last two runs
Wicked runs both of them
Was out. Shame I missed it. Home tomorrow.
Where do you guys watch this? I had to find a web stream?
World Cup Solden
Foxtel Go on ipad
Mens GS about to start. Weather is clear.
a commentator just said there were 90 competitors in this GS event
jeez, I thought interschools was busy
yep, 90 is correct. Only top 30 get a 2nd run.
There is a 19yr old Australian Alec Scott listed at no 72.
