This season, I want to ski from the top of the North Perisher T-bar to the Blue Cow Ridge Quad Chair. The Perisher trail map says this is the Devils Playground.

How easy is it to ski ?
How much snow does it need on it to be ski-able ?
    Is the trail marked ?
Is there a preferred way down it ?
How do you miss the creek on skiers right ?

Easy. Needs lots of snow. You keep left to miss the creek. It's basically a tree run. If it's open just follow the tracks
Devils Playground ? Who names these runs .

Last did it in July, 2015 after a bit of a dump. As said mainly a tree run, no steeper than double trouble. wouldn't do it on my own and first time would want somebody around familiar with the run.

Wear a helmet, most of the trees are low.

I thought ?? it did open very very briefly last season, its normally well signposted if it is open, just past the ski patrol hut at the top of the Interceptor chair, there is a track that goes from just past the ski patrol hut and comes out at the unload area at the top of North P. As you go down the track there will be multiple signage on your left to say that the area is open or closed.
I didn't ski it as I was by myself and will only do it when in the company of others.
The track is good if you are looking for some fresh tracks and will give you access to the top of North P if the T Bar is closed or you can cut trough the trees a bit further down the main trail at Interceptor and then cut through at the bottom to get back on the Interceptor chair if North P is closed.
Its really good after fresh snowfalls later in the season

@DidSurfNowSki Very rare for it be truly open and skiiable. I didn't ski it last season, don't think I have skiied it for 3-4 years. The top part is quite steep, rocky and lots of trees. When you cross the road there are few different options where you can go, but it is more flat and open from there. You need the creek to be crossable. If it is marginal best to scope this out from roller coaster first.

There are also lots more runs that are open every season in that area, dropping from the trail between top of interceptor and top of north p. These are lightly wooded runs that either end up down near the creek at pleasant valley quad, or you can run down parallel to the creek down to the road.

If the snow is good this year I am more than happy to take you through there.

BTW many people think Devils playground is the area between the top of interceptor and north p because there is a sign there saying if it is open or closed. This is incorrect, that is just the access trail. To access Devils playground you go far out wide to the left from the top of North P, or from the end of the access trail

Its a very long way to get to the top of Devils P from the ridge chair ;) That's what stops you looping you around Devils P. You have to go all the way back to Perisher then up interceptor. Also, often even when the run has good snow cover patrol only seem to drop the signs in the late morning or afternoon (same sometimes with double trouble).

One afternoon we can go on a mission and I'll show you lots of good and lesser known runs around North P, Devils P, Double trouble etc :)

"There are no trees, only gaps" a guide said to me once. I called bulls**t when I ran into a non-gap particularly hard.

I don't remember Devils being actually open last year however it didn't stop the odd daredevil ( sic , sorry) from having a crack at it though. It can be a nice run when fully open and conditions are right. A bit tight in some places as someone mentioned earlier but well worth a run when its right.

2014? There was one year when I skied all those normally/often closed runs, including the back way to Guthega from Mt P. The years run into each other ;)

I seem to have this vague memory that years ago in a very good season I once skied from the top of Smiggins to The Ridge.

    Would that have been right?

Can you still do it these days?

Yep many years ago, skied from Smiggins down to Ridge chair.
Haven't done it recently, needs plenty of snow for the creek crossing iirc

Needs a lot of snow and faces the wrong way to maintain it in most seasons

I can remember my mother taking me on that trip from Smiggs to the Ridge a few times but damn it was a long long time ago ..............very distant memory though. Don't think I have even thought about doing it in this century tbh.

Thanks for the feedback re: Smiggins to The Ridge - I do remember thinking it was a nice run and something quite different.

I also seem to recall many years ago in what must have been a lot of snow, doing on its own the bottom half of what was then unnamed but became Devils Playground (below the road) quite easily given my intermediate standard. I often look longingly at it from The Ridge chair and dream on.............

Don't go too far left as there is a creek beside Rollercoaster too. Nearly skied into it in 2007 during heavy conditions. By the time we made it to the bottom of the Ridge, caught the chair up and traversed to Blue Cow terminal, it had deteriorated to the extent of them closing the whole place after we made it to the pub.....half frozen for an ice cold beer.

It was definitely open for a few days in 2016 then promptly closed again and that whole area out wide skiers left of North P T-bar was roped and closed due to "avalanches" in the area (a lot of the snow had slid off some of the steeper rock faces). That general area re-opened to ski back down to the road and back to North P T-bar, but for the rest of the season the Devils Playground Closed sign was at the top of Interceptor.

If you can make it through Double Trouble you wont have an issue out there, but agree with the other comments of definitely go with someone your first time as it's easy to lose your bearings and end up in the wrong place with a decent walk to get out.

@robbo mcs definitely interested to take you up on a tour of some of the lesser known DT/DP areas one day this season if the offer still stands
