    TOM WILLIAMS

Tom Williams is an author from the Blue mountains who has been exploring wild places for many decades. He’s also a quiet achiever when it comes to climbing beautiful remote mountains and wild cliff-faces. He even used to make what was arguably the ultimate blue mountains explorer’s backpack!

You can taste his style of fiction, adventure and wilderness writing on his blog: https://tomwilliamsbluemountains.wordpress.com/

Tonight Tom will share the story of a month-long Kayak-based climbing trip to the stupendous fjords of Ofjord in East Greenland, with his old salt Ian Brown.

Piterak winds, Wayward icebergs, Polar bears, wildflowers, massive gneiss peaks, “challenging” campsites - this presentation is going to knock your socks off!

    SAM MITCHELL

Sam Mitchell grew up in a little town called Orbost in middle of no where Victoria. When he finished school he decided it would be a great idea to build a solar/ human powered trike, out of scrap metal from the local tip, and spend a year riding it around Australia. A combination madness, persistent work, and probably a bit of luck saw him riding out of Orbost a few months later on a four meter long "solar tricycle". Nine months (and many broken parts) later he rode triumphantly back into Orbost.
While in WA he had noticed this track on the map, "the Canning stock route", which looked like a fun challenge.... best described as 2000km of sand dunes and corrugations through one of the most remote part's of Australia, there is one Aboriginal community of about 100 people about half way through and a handful of restored historical well's. It is considered a challenge in a 4x4 convoy, but Sam tried it alone on his experimental doohickey, towing a trailer made out of an old trampoline frame.

Highlights of the trip included: welding the trailer frame back together with a battery and a piece of tinted glass, enough mud to stop the wheels from turning, hanging out with a dingo, desert sunrises and of course pancakes.

    See you there!

He is so understated. There were a couple of "really ridiculous big days" in there.

Super bummed I missed it (parent teacher night ran much longer than I thought it would)...
Tom climbs in my favourite hero style of routes.
