They're acting very strongly on it as well. Extra resources are on line (spare trucks and crews etc) and resources being moved around the state where the biggest danger exists, with multiple preemptive strike teams formed and deployed. Hoping everyone does the right thing.

It's strange getting all the operations messages when on the snow!

Here at Dargan upper BMs, winds forecast to 55 kph gusts, max 34, 57% humidity ATM, fire rating Catastrophic?!

Yeah, they do that a lot here too. If you happen to be in a district where the FFDI is high in another part of the same district, you cop their rating. eg: It can be cool and raining here, but in Castlemaine (150km away, totally different topography and vegetation) it can be hot and dry, so we cop their restrictions.

Was just paged asking for (Vic) volunteers to be on standby for deployment to NSW. Can't do it unfortunately.

Stay safe, kiddies. Hoping we don't see anything like Black Saturday, and the most we have to worry about are authorities over-reacting with their warnings.

Watching ABC news 24 and it seems pretty hot, dry, and windy out there.

Fires are running hard at moment...we also hope all are safe and fire fighters are being deployed safely ...does look scary on ABC television..

The NSW Fire Service adopted the correct strategy in stating the severe weather conditions well in advance...:thumbs::thumbs:

There is talk of possible storms with lightening overnight....let's hope that don't happen.. not good seeing poor livestock stressed out..:(

    Three arrested for lighting fires
Three people have been arrested for lighting fires during the state's total fire ban.

A 13-year-old boy was arrested on Saturday afternoon after he allegedly started a grass fire in Orange that prompted the evacuation of an animal shelter.

A 40-year-old man was arrested at the scene of a bushfire at Mangrove Creek on the central coast just after midnight on Sunday.

And a 32-year-old man was arrested at Nabiac on the mid-North coast on Sunday afternoon after two fires were deliberately lit.

It's the animals I feel for most. The people can understand what's happening and can take measures to survive. The animals (livestock and natives) lack both of those abilities.

My better half's mother took this pic from her kitchen window late yesterday arvo. Temps reached 47C. They're out at a place called Harty's Plains, on the Hastings River around 15kms west of Wauchope. Despite the dry spring and early summer, things were still pretty green when I was up there after Xmas. According to the RFS website, it's the Pappinbarra fire that's still out of control.

As the fire moves out of the bush country and things cool down it should calm down a bit. The majority of stock in its path have been or where moved. Native animals not so much.

Christchurch fires are obviously of great concern.
And we see the danger that the firebombers are working with.
    Our sympathies at your loss....:(

CHCH firies were due to host a charity hill climb (on foot) this weekend in what it now an annual event but I believe have already made the call to cancel it. Might be able to put a few of the internationals to work instead.

I hate the way that fire reports have virtually been sacrificed for the sake of warnings. Now they tell you to run for your life (or whatever) but little about the fire. Is it big or small? Where precisely is it? What direction is it moving in. Are there water fighting aircraft? How many firefighters? ie: is it something that I might be concerned about? Can I make a proper decision with insufficient information? Fortunately being in the CFA I have access to more info than the public, but still not enough.

Good that Vic has not got much on its plate so that necessary equipment and Vicco crews. can go barrelling over Murray heading Nth.And most of the aircraft/helicopters and heli tankers can be made available.
Teckel do they fly crews to Canberra and put in drivers to drive crew less tankers north...o_O

  47.
    teckel

teckel Old And Crusty Season Pass Gold

Yeah, that's sometimes what they do. Other times, the crews go up in the tankers. Depends I suppose on whether the fire is near a major airport. And where they're sourcing the crews from. This time, I suppose they'll fly crews from Melb or west or south to CBR, then bus them to the fireground. Crews from the north-east will go up in their tankers.

Any idea when regions will start winding up fire restrictions? Mostly concerning VIC as the rest of the country seems to be cooking, but some parts of VIC are quite wet. Personally, I have heaps of trees to burn, so the sooner the better for me. Dates at the moment still seem to be set at 1/5/2017, but with the recent cool and wet weather i'm hoping it's sooner than that.
