What cover ?? ;\)

It's very patchy here (no surprise there...) some natural snow lying around in the protected areas, but that's about it.

Only the lightest of misty rain falling at the moment too...... & it won't be doing any damage to the cover...... Prolly a dusting above 1800....

DOH

How can you say on the 29th July that "in the first week of sept..... heavenly, as i hold no hope at all of the extreme zone or one tree hill being open"???

Seasons can change very suddenly:

It may not turn out as it did in 1984, but then again it might!!!!!!

Sandy - do you have the MSLP maps for the period of 1 Aug, then 8th, then 15th in 1982 - ie what it looked like as it dumped ?

PS fellow BBQ'ers. I will post some reports from Falls from the 1st as I will hopfully be ankle deep in powder, pushing through onto the grass, well at the beginning of the week, then hopefully on top of more snow towards the end of our trip :0

I guess you mean 1984??

Actually, I DO have them (I CUT them out of the newspapers back then), but seeing as I'm in Japan, I have no access to them here!!!!! (they're in a box back in Melbourne!!!!!

However, as I recall, there was one front on the 9th-12th August, and it cleared on the 14th, then from the 15th August, there was a continuous series of cold fronts, one after the other until 27th August. I was at Falls Creek 10-12th Aug, Buller on the 14th, and at Hotham from 25th until 1st September. Hotham went from 38cm to 198cm.

There is a site (Blizz on here -Blackheath on WZ) has posted it before with archived MSLP charts back to 1959 (i think)....its a fantastic resource.
Australian BOM has it back to 1999 I do recall..

yep remember 84 well , given up for dead and not into the second week of august did the heavens open , constant blocking highs till then , then suddenly they shifted and it was constant fronts for the rest of the month.
as for skiing on heavenly first week in sept its a given , the snow cover on the snowmaking parts of snake gully is very deep and very very solid and aint going anywhere soon .

Thinking 2008 scenrio again. Slow to start, but then it didn't stop for about 8 weeks. I'm not complaining but it would be nice to get a few two day windows of good weather in between events so we could make the most of it.

I would say more bullish than quietly.
I think the predicted totals are about where they should be now. Can't see anymore upgrades in them, but you never know
