First day trip to buller this yesterday, I'd thought I'd go the Whittlesea - Flowerdale - Yea way, not much traffic and a good run. The only downer is the fire ravaged areas and the 80 km/ph section. Also there was a pea brain in an Audi sedan passing people on blind corners and exceeding the 80 km/ph limit by lots - you've just got to hope that you don't meet this type going the other way...

oh yes, we had two drivers passing on blind corners too, one did it right after a 800m plus long straight... its just hard to believe a car can be driving in the right hand lane with about 30 meters of vision ahead...
You see this enough and start to wonder why there aren't more deaths.
I think I will mount a camera on the dash, I could make a killing sending videos of this stuff to tv shows, assuming we don't all end up in a box because of these idiots.

Seasoned people who make the trip to buller many times a year realise that the extra 10mins you're going to save by over-taking stupidly just isnt worth it. CM knows where it's at having dinner in Mansfield. Either that option or i take off from the mountain around 7pm and it's all smooth sailing.

I agree. Virtually every idiot that passed me on the way to Buller was waiting in the queue at the gate. There just isn't any point in doing this stupid stuff. I see that there was a mini bus that went off the road just past flowerdale at 8am on the Whittlesea / Yea road, one killed. Probably off to the snow.

on the way back from Buller I think the news said... re the bus crash
re the overtaking, I'd say he would have been doing well to have gained 5mins when the traffic is busy like it is on Sunday evenings.
often you see these same cars in Ringwood, I guess they go via Lilydale and that's why you catch up to them again.

Hello again its been a while, working to hard(not really). So the pipe is finished, last section layed thie week. There is still the sub station in yea to complete and filling back over of the pipe with all the extra land fill but it is getting easier the drive. Hope the overtacking lanes will come back soon though. Going up again this afternoon and will see how it goes. One little thing, the turns after Pincle Valley to Alpine Ridge on the Bulller road, where the fatal accident was, is now a 60 klm zone.
Have fun and see you on the slopes

yep, 60km now on that sweeping corner.
I will be glad to see the back of the 60km limit the other side of Yea, I'm sure I'm about the only one of a few that sits on 60 through it.
Nice to hear the pipe work is close to finished down this end too.

Nothing nice about it except that the roadworks will be gone.

Travelling from armadale we went via tallarook for the first time. The trip time to mansfield was exactly the same as going via yarra glen and that was with no road works. And we didnt have to suffer the endless eastern suburbs. No more melba highway for me....
