SEEKING: A couple (bf/gf) or 2 people travelling together interested in a room in a house, 600 mtrs from Whistler/Blackcomb base. From start of October 08 through till April 09. (7 month lease). $700 pp a month includes all utilities to a reasonable amount (no 3hr showers in other words, haha) thats water, elec, cable, internet etc.. Get in touch with me if anybody is interested. I am also seeking a female to share a room with a girl who is travelling with me and my gf. She is 21, easy going, clean etc. Same cost applies $700 a month. Anyone who can commit to the whole 7 months or close to it will be in with the best chance..

I have posted on facebook and SKUK (Uk Snowboard forum) then It will be going in Pique mag if need be. Im sure it wont last long then, I have paid the deposit myself and will need to get a deposit off the selected applicant asap which will be returned to us at the end of our stay (approx: 350). The Landlord also requires the 1st and last months rent paid one month before the lease commences. This means I would need $1400pp by the 1st of September. This will suit anyone keen for the whole season because the month of October will be paid in advance when things will probably be quiet around town aswell as the last month April pre payed so if cash is short by then we wont be trying to scrape up rent before we leave.

Send a pm if interested or have anymore questions.

Hi,

I'm planning on doing the 08/09 Whistler Season, and hoping to book flights this week. I was wondering if anyone who has done the season before could give me some advice on when to travel - looking at flying over 19 November after exams and coming home 18 February in time for first semester. Would I be arriving early enough to secure work? Also, should I be aiming to have accommodation organised for the season before I arrive, or just temporary accommodation? Lastly, are ski equipment prices cheaper in Canada or should I purchase all my gear before I leave?

Thanks for your help!

Hey Claire..

As for when to arrive, in general i'd say the earlier the better. If its late November you would find work in the village but not likely for Whistler Blackcomb itself as they would have had their job fair by then, so you won't have access to staff accommodation.
Accommodation can be a real pain, are you travelling solo or with friends? are you happy to share? if your travelling solo and happy to share you could probably wait till you get there. If with friends and/or don't want to share try and organise something well before arriving.
As for buying equipment I would say get it over there for sure..

As White said Pique is worth a look. Comes out every Thursday but I think it get updated online on the Wednesday. (sure i read that somewhere).

Also try http://www.resortac.com and http://www.alluradirect.com
They manage lots of holiday rentals, which are expensive for a week or so, but if you email the owners directly through the site you can tell them the dates and how many ppl and they may be willing to rent there places for 2,3,4 months etc.
I fluked my place this way and I know another girl who got a house for 8 ppl this way. Just remember that once you arrive you may find that you will have to split the group up if a place comes up for one or two ppl and not three. Just something to be aware of, better to have a roof over ya head than wait for a three person place that may take a while to pop up. Good Luck with it all!!!

alta vista/blueberry are nice but a bit out of the way... i think best place to stay is village or creekside - walk to either gondola - unless you have a car or dont mind the bus...but who wants to wait for a bus when you could be shredding already...

Hey there F+J, did ya do ya knee on the slopes or was it pretty much gonna be due for it anyway through a life of use. I just went through World Nomads for the upcoming season, are you getting ya knee fixed through Insurance? If so are they making it difficult? I think Brio is near the golf course, am i right, if so how far is that from the lifts and town?

Did the knee on Feb 27. Coming down Blackcomb. It was last minute decision to go up as I was heading in to Van that night to see Gregory Isaacs at the awesome commodore ballroom, and i thought I'd just do one run. Visibility was poor and it was icy, about half way down I was with some buddies and I skied ahead and caught my edge and took a massive tumble at speed. Had some nice pain relief from ski patrol and a ride down in the t-bog then next few days were spent between whistler emergency and van general hospital for CT scans, x-rays etc etc. That knee has been trouble before so coming home for the knee surgery was maybe only a matter of time. I use world nomads too. Insurance has been great actually, no prob at all. I could have stayed and had surgery in Canada but preferred to come here for a few reasons. Only trouble I had was with airlines trying to get home after the accident. They didn't want to help me at all as I had to keep the leg elevated and have blood-thinning injections and needed a seat with extra leg room. Air Canada came through but it was ridiculous. Brio is not far at all, next to the golf course as you say. Just a walk up through the village to lifts. And close to whistler marketplace for groceries etc. Personally, I prefer upper village or creekside - but its all good - if you dont mind a bit of a walk...

Definitely buy it over there. No doubt. You'll get one for a good price somewhere in Van then just sell it through the classifieds when you go...

Try Future Shop. There is one downtown on the cnr of Robson and Granville. I think they have a clearance outlet too, which may be cheaper. Hope that helps!
