Im from the south of the state. I started boarding when i was 4 and started skiing when i was 11 on my second day of skiing i won a junior race when i was in grade 4 i went to new zealand for to weeks. and thats pretty much my story
I first saw snow in the form of big old drifts while on a family holiday at Charlottes Pass Chalet but that was it for many years. I did time on the mainland seeing very little snow beyond the odd fluke of falls while at boarding school and on high ground in SE Qld. I grabbed the chance of a job on the Tassie West coast and took up cross country at the first chance I got and have been keen on it ever since. At the time I was really keen to escape tropical hot climates and have not regretted it, and ended up retired and living in Launceston. My obsession has been with getting into high ground patches on the central plateau by practical routes for carrying skis. I had early success with Ironstone Mtn using a wombats line to minimize the dolerite boulder field problem to access the 1400m country, though it is still a stiff walk but manageable as a full day trip from Launceston. I also established linked animal pads to do the same for Clumner plateau as I call it.
Got my first taste of snowboarding in 08 (years ago compared to most, I know :)) in Buller on a school trip, followed that up by going to Benny. Put a few hard scuffs and bruises on my board haha. And just recently, went for a trip over to NZ for a week.
Brings me to here, sitting in front of the Mac during my lunch break.. Waiting, for a dump on Benny!
Hopefully there is snow around the 19th-20th as I will be heading up to Benny with my old school..
