As a side trip this year we are looking at a day trip from Vegas to the Grand Canyon. Looking at 2 options of flying in a plane or helicopter to the Canyon. Either way, the trips end up getting us down into the Canyon, fed on the rim and time to look around and probably do the Sky walk. For close to $200 less, we can do plane, not heli. Anyone done this before ?

Ditch another day in Vegas and hike into the Canyon itself. Far more awesome and rewarding then the lame sky walk.

The Grand Canyon is in the top 3 things I've ever seen in my life. I'd love to do a hike down into it.

The chopper flight is well worth it.

the chopper down into it is a given. Has anyone flown helis or fixed wing from vegas to GC?

We did the Papillon heli trip into the canyon. It was great. When we did it (2006), they were the only operators who were allowed to land in the Canyon - crappy lunch deal but cool to be down in there. I think there was an option to finish the day with a fly down the Strip which would have been fun

This has also always interested me so can anyone answer the following...

How long are those flights/tours?

Best time of day? Morning or afternoon better for pics /views etc?

I keep hearing about options for South or West Rim. Which is more scenic/better trip?
