I probably don't need the suunto anymore but I got a new one for free because the old one that died got lost at the repairer. And I'd already bought myself the garmin.

I've always wondered about that, I would have thought that a fat 90kg person would burn more rather than the same cals as a fit 90kg person.

Tehn again I could be an idiot, fat person would have a higher heart rate

Telemarx I hope you recover from your surgery quickly smile

My son has an ortho review tomorrow ( it has been six weeks since he fractured his ankle) hopefully his fractures have healed as he wants to have his cast removed. I have 'been there done that' so I know exactly how the poor kid feels. Being incapacitated and just waiting for bones to repair themselves is so frustrating!
Good luck with that appointment Nikki. BTDT with Nathan's tib/fib fracture .... Took way longer than expected! I think because it was a spiral fracture. Frustrating waiting for the all clear.

woohoo

Vaughan's multiple tib/fib fractures (including a spiral fracture) have all healed. It would appear that my constant nagging about not taking any weight on his ankle has paid off. biggrin

LMB If I knew how to post a pic of his CT scan (taken 4 weeeks ago) you would be able to see how amazing his recovery has been. He has a bit of muscle wasting and a slight limp but with a bit of physio should make a full recovery. biggrin

ROFL blocking him from his own account. ROFL

Great news about Vaughan's healing, that is amazing. Poor Nathan still had a hairline fracture of his fib when they took his cast off after 3months! Didn't stop him playing waterpolo THAT NIGHT though. How's YOUR ankle going Nik? Improvements enough to get you back on skis or a board?

LMB my fracture which was nowhere near as bad as Vaughan's, was still showing on the MRI 3 months after my fall so I think his recovery is amazing.

I am really happy with my recovery. Whilst I have lost some of the range of movement in my ankle, it no longer feels like it is going to give way and my balance is probably better now than it was before my fall. biggrin

I think I am ready for a snow trip now. The only problem is my ortho doesn't think I will be able to board and the thought of skiing just terrifies me, so I have no idea what I will be doing.

We are thinking about making a trip over to Thredbo in September so I will be very interested to hear how your ski lessons go. smile

Mountain bike lots of hills, gym circuit training, then swimming to ease the whole lot. Two sessionof each per week with lots of stretching. I find the variety avoids stress on particular joints and I am ready to ski. I can't do plyometric jumps as the impact kills my lower back.

Nik and I did our 27km ride this morning, but very gusty winds blowing - 30kph with gusts over 40kph.

Riding there was brisk but a head wind on the way home was worth quite a few more calories burned!

Nik claimed it was her best ride yet, but I'm thinking its because she got to see me fall offf!! laugh ROFL laugh ROFL laugh

Hi all

I've been quiet on the excercise lately. Bought a house instead, which has kept life rather unbalanced. Jacq appears to have done her ACL playing netball, surprise surprise rolleyes The good news is that she is keen to get on her old MT bike to ride to the train station to the station once we move. So I've done a quick service my old road bike that will be my commuter bike, despite being an ancient road bike, it might be a bit painful of the seat with work pants, so I might need to change seats. My good bike was properly serviced and needed a new rear cluster and chain. We'll get all of Jacquis bikes looked at next week at her LBS. Anyway it looks like well use the old bikes this weekend to work out the route, what a come down from our usual bikes.

Well weather has been ordinary.... didn't ride on the long weekend as was down the coast at the beach house. Managed a couple of sessions in the surf and a paddle in (or on) the kayak (more fishing than paddling). Sunday rides are creeping back up towards the 100km mark (Bondi Junction to Waterfall) and still wanting to do the ride to Kiama, which would be about 130kms (lunch then train back).
Put fingers in ears, say "tra la la la la la la" and everything will be okay.

This thread has been a bit quiet lately.

Weekdays I ride 20km every morning (I'll admit it's only on my exercise bike, but it still counts laugh ) and it is often interrupted with a school run.

In the afternoons I walk 7km. I am trying to pick up my pace and do this in under an hour, getting close but not quite there yet!

Last weekend I went walking along the beach in soft sand. It was hard work, I was only able to do about 3km.

Hopefully our weather will clear up a bit in time for the weekend so I will be able to go out for a proper bike ride. smile

I have been really quiet lately - feeling very UNpositive and UNexercisey and UNmotivated.

I have still been attending my regular sessions of kickboxing and toning through step into life, but that has been about it. The kids training schedules have really taken over my life. But I have a plan!!!!

I have signed up yesterday to a 6mth membership to the UWA gym, which is still open at the same time as the boys are training (6-7.30pm and 7.30-9pm, sometimes BOTH times slots, but at least one every week day!!). So the plan is to put in an hour a night in the gym - don't really care about the strength stuff as I am getting that at the SIL sessions - but will focus on cardio, even if it is low impact an hour a night should make a difference.

I DO read...just feeling unworthy of posting! laugh

is there something in the water?

I've not been to the gym for over 3 months because of shoulder and thumb issues. My thunb is due for surgery in early July.

and Ive missed a lot of taekwondo and kickboxing due to work and other issues. Ive gone from exercising consistently 8 times a week to an average of only 2-3 times a week.

I feel fat!
