Well its 2012 so best start a new ben snow & weather thread.. It,s a bit early to get excited about snow but its looking like a very nice front blasting across tassie friday arvo.. Should be cold enough for snow to 900m. Should see the first bushwalkers weather warning for the year.. Might have to be in the Ben facinity on Friday arvo to get some picks to get us thinking snow! thumbsup

Looks like we could get a cold south/south easterly blast on Monday that could dump a bit of Autumn snow on the ground to start cooling down those rocks!

No idea if Ben got any snow, but looking at the Cam for Mawson late yesterday it certainly was getting quite a lot. Just checked out the Cam a few moments ago and the Cam is covered over with snow but you can see glimpses and I would imagine there may be quite a bit of snow up there. Whether sufficient for a ski or board who knows. Would be nice to think so, and a bit like the old days when we used to have an earlier start to the season. Mt Hutt is starting to look ok, and with a start date of early June, perhaps things might be a little better for NZ this year. Nothing really so far down at Coronet or Remarkables. Also looks like Hotham, Falls Creek and Perisher have also a little snow but no where near enough yet of course. Still encouraging signs.

Hi All,

Looking like an interesting system coming into the weekend which is coming down from the North and merging with a cold front from the south and hitting Ben Lomond from tomorrow during the day swinging from a north east flow to a sudden south-east flow sucking up the colder air from the right direction. Could be interesting but it will be all over by Saturday afternoon. Its neither here nor there but could be interesting.

From Saturday for a week there will most likely be clear days and nights with cool days but cold to very cold nights with lots of long wave radiation evaporation.

The next interesting weather is again a south east flow but is a long way off in the models on the 6th June but could again bring some snow to Ben followed by more persisting highs.

Interesting BLIM, anything to get the ground cooling is good too, the next couple of weeks of mega frosts and well sub 0 nights will make a big difference to the ground temp ready for the first big falls.

Although Iceman, I wonder if your right considering the weather station is showing that the temp hasn't been under 0 all day up there, in fact its closer to 8 degrees most of the afternoon... seems a little odd though...because Liawenee has been about 3 degrees all day and its been blowing southerly all day on the Ben which makes me think it should have been colder as the easterly hasn't got there yet.

When does rovers get occupied on a more permanent basis to get the snow cam up and running?

i think that weather station is wrong seeing as storys creek & ben ridge road which are much lower stations are showing way colder temps then the ben.. I shall check conditions later today i will be in the area

Nice, as expected. only 8.7 in Launi at 7:30 pm so its gotto be close to 0 up there! Should be a nice dressing of snow by morning. The snow should stick around with the cool days and freezing nights with this high next week too. It will be good when Rovers is fired up and the ski cam is working. \:\)

cloulds have cleared to reveal some snow on the Ben.. look like about 3-4cm .. nothing to get that excided about.. It would have taken a while to settle seeing as how much rain we had yesterday !
