Nuking down now in Nozawa Onsen.
Looks unpleasant out there today.

Wind blowing in the village. Vis will be poor above the gondy today.

Will hit the trees on the mid mountain were they open the weekend lifts.

Try to stick to the topic. There's also a Nozawa thread, and people will be looking in there for the heads up on Nozawa.

Forecast for Hakuba looks atrocious for the 23rd and 24th of Feb!!! Rain rain rain!!!

Luckily for us we have the opportunity to head up to Hokkaido for 8/9 days and ski a variety of resorts. Niseko, Furano, Rsutsu, Kamui, Tomamu, Kurodake are on the cards.

I know the weather basics for Hokkaido are probably covered somewhere in here but that'd be very hard to find. Just wondering if there are any tips for Hokkaido? We know that a north west feed is what we want for Hakuba etc etc etc and we know about the differences between Cortina and Happo but we have no idea about the what Niseko/Furano needs. We are 100% flexible so could go to Niseko first if the weather looks like it favours Niseko over Furano and vice versa.

Any tips would be sensational!

The best tip for Hokakido is don't worry too much about it. In Feb, it rarely let's you down. Even when there is no forecast you still get some snow.

If diabolical means rain and also applies to Myoko I'll be happy to get some of the snow off my roof. But I need to fix the hole around the chimney first.

It looks just a little bit like the rain might turn to snow in central Japan some time on Friday 24th, rather than early Sat 25th, IMO.

This week until the 23rd looks very nice in Hakuba at least for backcountry.

But you are right to go north. I'm in Hakkoda now and the snow is... deep dry powder. In 5 seasons in Hakuba I have very seldom seen powder like the stuff I was wading through today.

You have to call a spade a spade: it is cold and consistently blower in the north.

I am supposed to arrive to Nozawa on 26th \:\( What I can see is this and not sure if the 26th pattern means the snow will eventuate ( excuse my ignorance ).

Common charts, I need some more positive news, I am sitting at home with injured back..

I think we will see some big totals today. Otari recording 50cm overnight which means today's destination should have 2+ feet easy. Epic.

Epic in Myoko. I'm back in. Took a high speed tumble, twisted my knee in the pow. Looks like my boarding for this trip is over.
