Hmmm... that has just ruined my day. Let's hope we see those forecasts change as we get closer to next week. One or two days of rain not a problem, but 5 days, and surely that has to start causing some problems.

If its cold enough I think we could get a lot 50cm plus from this system over the weekend.

I'm in Queenstown at the moment. It's been raining here since last night, just clearing now. If Cardrona is open tomorrow I'm hoping to head there. Sounds like they might have done quite well out of this system. Coronet Peak sounds like they might have copped some of the wet stuff.

Rained pretty solidly in Wanaka last night. Been drizzling today. Some snow on higher elevations. Needs to get much colder though.

Suggestion from current GFS is that the 1400 freeze level should push in by midnight...fingers crossed...unfortunately most of the moisture's forecast to have gone...but looks like 5 or 10cm of colder fresher stuff by lunchtime tomorrow

33mm of rain (at my place) in Queenstown since midnight. The Shotover River was muddy brown and raging today. I saw a huge tree floating downstream, so I expect the rain in the catchment areas would have been huge.

Remarks report said it was sleeting at the base and snowing up high, but when it cleared this afternoon, I couldn't see any evidence of new snow.

New snow, quite a bit up higher. Really nice too up at Remarks today. Hiked up to the Alta Chutes which was great, the snow there was pretty deep and dry.

Looks like all the doom and gloom 5 day rain forecast was wrong. Shaping up to be a nice week.

Nice is subjective of course. Certainly fine weather, but what would have been nice was the forecast low level snow for later this week which has pretty much disappeared.

Agreed. What I meant to say was better than 5 days of heavy rain on the slopes.
